Job title: Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Schedule: PRN/Casual; Scheduled as needed
Position Summary:
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist position performs all nuclear medicine procedures requiring independent judgment and initiative. Demonstrates anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning, technique selection, administration of radiopharmaceuticals, and application of immobilization and radiation protection devices according to policy and procedure.
Position Responsibilities: Administer radiopharmaceuticals and non-radiopharmaceuticals to patients to detect or treat diseases, using radioisotope equipment under direction of radiologist. Calculate, measure, and record radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received, used or disposed, following physician order. Dispose of radioactive materials and store radiopharmaceuticals, following radiation safety procedures. Ensures compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, and orders of the state of Department of Health and Rehabilitation Services, including the requirement of administrative code and any conditions specified in the Radioactive Materials License. Performs necessary clerical work by assuring proper scheduling, correct exam, prior authorization, obtaining prior report/scan, patient lab values, and review of clinic notes for all PET and Nuclear Medicine scans. Performs all required diagnostic nuclear medicine scans, consistently demonstrating good judgment in evaluating the diagnostic studies for quality and diagnosis. Exercise responsibility for the maintenance and accuracy of facility reports, database records and logs. Maintains a safe and clean work environment. Orders and maintains adequate supplies. Perform screening and scheduling of PET/CT exams for Shared Medical Imaging. Perform bone mineral density/DEXA imaging. Maintains quality control of Nuclear Medicine equipment to ensure the scanner is operating properly. Carry out quality assurance protocols and quality improvement measures within the facility. Troubleshoots equipment problems, calls for service, and notifies pertinent team members. Reports any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdowns to the Medical Imaging Director. Assist director with accreditation paperwork or duties. Perform other related duties as needed. Position Requirements:
Four-year degree required. NMTCB certification required. 1+ years related work experience preferred. BLS certification required or obtained within 3 months of hire. Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required. Intermediate to expert proficiency with computers is required. Requires assessment, evaluation, and decision-making skills. Understanding of basic radiation safety principles and IV placement.
