Network Engineer

The Network Engineer will take charge of assessing systems, identifying problems, providing solutions, designing and upgrading systems, maintaining current infrastructures, and innovating future improvements. Note: This position is 100% onsite at Joint Base Andrews, MD and requires an active Secret clearance to start. The AFNCR IT Services program supports vital information systems for national defense, including Headquarters Air Force (HAF), Air Force District of Washington (AFDW), Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), and other critical military operations. Primary Responsibilities: Monitor network systems for messages, alarms, and potential issues.
Identify and resolve issues, escalating when necessary.
Troubleshoot network problems using scripts and standard procedures; escalate complex issues as needed.
Facilitate troubleshooting for enterprise-level routers and switches.
Coordinate with vendors to resolve network outages or performance issues.
Process Authorized Service Interruptions (ASI’s) as directed by management.
Maintain security standards for all network equipment as per DoD and local requirements, ensuring compliance with updates, STIGs, and IOS upgrades.
Support special projects and daily operations as assigned by leadership.
Participate in on-call rotation as required.
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience; or additional years may substitute for a degree.
Must have an active DoD Secret security clearance.
Current CompTIA Security + or CCNP Security certification is required.
Active CCNA Certification is required.
Extensive knowledge of LAN switching, including VLANs, VTP, Port Security, Spanning Tree, and Layer 2/3 configurations.
Proficient in Layer 3 routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, IS-IS) and best implementation practices.
Demonstrated expertise in L1/L2 network troubleshooting (both Unclassified and Classified).
In-depth knowledge of DoD network and application security protocols.
Experience with programming, managing, and troubleshooting encryption devices at network entry points.
Familiarity with DoD COMSEC management processes and protocols.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Cisco ISE and Cisco DNA.
Knowledge of the Air Force, Pentagon, and AFNCR operations.
Previous experience working at the Pentagon, Joint Base Andrews, or Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling is advantageous.
Required Certifications: Active CompTIA Security + or CCNP Security certification / Active CCNA Certification.
