Job Title: Emergency Department Technician

Position Summary
The ED Tech is responsible for providing outstanding service while working under the direction and supervision of the RN I Physician in the Emergency Department. Provides support services to patients and staff assisting nurses and physicians by helping with test, exams, and procedures and performing clerical duties related to updating and organizing information on the nursing units. Coordinates work within the unit as well as with other departments while keeping the department leader informed. Responds to inquiries and requests from staff personnel and provides support as needed to support department goals.
General Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities Promotes and maintains an atmosphere for patient comfort; answers patient call system, offers comfort measures to patient in coordination with the nursing staff; keeps patient's room clean and orderly; assists patients with bedpans and urinals; assists in cleaning and preparing rooms after a patient has been dispositioned, removing and disposing of used supplies, specimens and re-stocking with clean linens and supplies. Prepares necessary supplies and equipment needed for required procedures; cleans and sends instruments to appropriate department for sterilization; stocks chest tube cart, ENT cart, orthopedic cart, laceration cart, and ECG cart; ensures ED equipment is in working order and properly maintained. Safely rooms patients and accurately assesses vital signs, assists patients to the bathroom, obtain EKG's, venipunctures, and culture indication when indicated Under direct supervision of a physician and/or RN, performs wound irrigation, wound dressings, and splinting. Assists with the reconciliation of medication for patients. i.e. call pharmacy and work collaboratively as appropriate. Prepares patient for transportation and transports patients to and from diagnostics or to patient room on admission (non- cardiac). Brings code cart to designated areas, provides cardiac compressions if required. Documents appropriate data in the patient chart when care is provided; enters and verifies orders in the computer system. Prints completed electronic documents for admissions and transfers which also includes lab and radiology reports; Admits patient's into appropriate systems after hours and/or manually admits patient systems are down for service; Sends Primary Care Providers (PCP) daily reports of Emergency Department patients for follow up care. Responsible for collecting accurate data from EMR and saving it to the Emergency Department Logbook to ensure up to date and complete records as directed. Ensures documentation is complete, accurate and timely; prepares the patient record in both electronic and chart form for new admissions, transfers and discharged patients. Functions as a Unit Clerk when assigned. Performs all aspects of position in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical healthcare errors; utilizes established hand-off communication protocols. As needed; sets up follow up appointments for patients during daytime hours (8-4:30 M-F), except on holidays. Complies with all established safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Participates in performance improvement activities. Performs other duties as assigned. CNA or EMT-B Certification Required Certification/Licensure Requirements
Current IL CNA or EMT-B Certification Required BLS Required CPI training completion required within 6 months of hire Experience Requirements
CNA/EMT-B minimum 2 years Preferred Office/Clerical setting minimum 2 years Preferred Computer Skills
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Outlook Additional Skills
Ability to work independently, prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner Excellent ability to thrive under pressure and adapt to changes in assignment Excellent communication and customer service skills
