ROSE STATE COLLEGE ANNOUNCES AN OPENING IN THE LIBERAL ARTS & SCIENCES DIVISION
POSITION: Reading Lab Specialist
Description of Duties:
Provide assistance to Reading instructors in developing student reading skills. Open and close reading labs each morning and evening when they are open. Assist students during open lab periods with the use of laboratory tests, equipment, and materials. Provide clerical and secretarial support to reading instructors such as typing correspondence, reports, purchase requests, copy work, etc. Assist reading instructors in administering Nelson-Denny Reading Tests, as well as, other diagnostic tests, as needed. Maintain materials and equipment in reading labs. Monitor student computers and determine if or when IT Services should be notified of problems. Maintain the effective operation and cleanliness of labs. Inventory and order necessary lab supplies. Responsible for checking materials in and out of labs. Input student information into computer system. Maintain files and records system for laboratory operations and student progress. Prepare statistical reports and surveys as directed. Write and prepare testing materials with instructors' approval. Determine reading levels of classroom materials for all college divisions. When requested by dean or associate deans, provide support in other offices in the two academic facilities and the campus-adjacent performing arts facility. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Perform other related duties as assigned. Work under limited supervision. Receive training and guidelines from supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's Degree or equivalent or two (2) years college course work. One (1) year related work experience. Good communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with MS Office (Word and Outlook). Ability to work under minimal supervision. Ability to learn reading lab software. Typing skills, but speed/accuracy test not required. Moderate lifting up to 25 lbs and moderate carrying up to 25 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, bending and stooping.
Desired Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in related field. Two (2) years' experience working with faculty and students in an educational setting. Working knowledge of the Canvas management system.
