Senior Network Systems Engineer

to join our dynamic team. You will play a critical role in supporting a fast-paced program with the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center by deploying and managing a complex network that spans multiple customer sites and cloud environments. In this role, you will design, procure, and install network systems compliant with Department of Defense (DoD) specifications. As a key contributor, you will develop network architectures, collaborate with procurement teams to source essential hardware and software, and oversee the installation and configuration of vital network equipment such as TACLANES, routers, switches, and firewalls. Your expertise will ensure thorough testing for functionality and security compliance, while maintaining accurate documentation and providing essential technical support to team members and end-users. Additionally, you will manage and configure COMSEC equipment and be an integral member of the Leidos team providing 24x7 monitoring of customer networks in the Leidos network operations center. *This position will require the ability to work a rotating shift* Primary Responsibilities: Lead the creation of detailed network designs for both hardware and software that conform to DoD standards. Collaborate closely with procurement teams to identify and source hardware and software that meet specific project requirements. Oversee the installation and configuration of critical infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and servers. Conduct comprehensive testing of network systems to ensure they meet performance and security standards. Troubleshoot and resolve issues arising during installation and testing phases. Maintain precise documentation for network configurations, installations, and modifications. Develop and update network diagrams and other vital technical documents. Work collaboratively with engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to guarantee successful project execution. Ensure accurate inventory of COMSEC materials, including keying equipment and cryptographic keys, adhering to security protocols. Lead installation, operation, and maintenance of COMSEC equipment and software, maintaining compliance with security standards. Provide technical support and guidance to team members and users. Stay informed on DoD policies and best practices that pertain to network security and design. Implement rigorous security measures to safeguard network infrastructure and data. Basic Qualifications: US Citizenship with a Top Secret Clearance is required, with the capability to obtain a SCI prior to starting. Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 8 years of experience, or a Master's degree with at least 6 years of experience. Additional experience may substitute for formal education. Extensive knowledge of protocols, security standards, and design principles for OSI Layers 1-4. Significant experience in the installation and configuration of physical networking equipment and Local Area Networks (LANs). Robust experience in the design and deployment of Wide Area Networks (WANs) using Virtual Private Networking (VPN) technologies. Experience with cloud networking technologies, particularly Microsoft Azure (vNETs, VPN Gateway, Virtual WAN, Express Routes, Azure Firewall, etc). Experience configuring and managing COMSEC devices. Skilled in interpreting and applying network management and troubleshooting tools such as ICMP, SNMPv3, and Syslog. Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, JNCIA, PCNSA, AZ-700, CISSP) that meet DoD 8140 requirements. Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with DoD networks, especially classified and operational networks. Familiarity with the use of cryptographic devices for secure networking across VPNs. Hands-on experience in configuring VPNs using technologies such as Juniper Secure Connect, Azure VPN Gateway, MPLS, IPsec VPN, or other site-to-site VPN solutions. Experience in remotely managing networks through Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration as Code (CaC). Current qualification from the NSA COMSEC Manager Course. Experience in network performance monitoring and optimization. Strong understanding of cybersecurity practices and risk management, particularly at OSI layers 1-3. Previous leadership or mentoring experience within a technical team. Awareness of emerging technologies and trends in network infrastructure. Original Posting:
