Job Description:
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) are medical professionals provide emergency life-saving services to patients who suffered from accidents like vehicle crashes, burns, street accidents, drug overdose, attempted suicides, gunshot wounds or heart attacks and/or strokes or childbirth and to transport them to medical facilities. At the emergency scene, EMTs immediately look after the patient's condition. They obtain patient's medical history and evaluate his present condition. Upon identifying the patient's condition, they give proper emergency medical service adhering to proper rules, regulations and protocols and transport the patient to the medical facility, EMTs are under a paramedic's or physician's supervision. They report all observations and corresponding actions to the emergency department. After delivery of the patient, they record the details of the trip, restore used supplies and recheck their equipment. They sanitize the ambulance after transport of a patient with a highly contagious disease. The EMT-Basic has skills to give patient care at the scene of the accident and transport them under the guidance of superior skilled personnel. The EMT-Basic also can evaluate the patient's condition and to apply proper respiratory, heart and trauma care services. The EMT may administer medications orally or by injection when trained and obtain the variance. They can operate electrocardiograms (EKGs), and operate specialized equipment.
