Job Description
JOB FUNCTION / PURPOSE :
The CAD Security Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, engineering, and implementing physical security systems for client and internal projects. This role collaborates with Pre-Construction and Operations teams to interpret project specifications, develop system layouts, and produce detailed installation drawings. The engineer will design electronic security systems including access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, and may assist with intercom, nurse call, paging, and A/V systems. Using AutoCAD and other tools, the Security Systems Engineer ensures a smooth transition from engineering to operations, supporting collaboration across teams to deliver reliable, compliant security solutions.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :
Conduct site assessments to identify security risks and operational needs.
Develop security system designs, including CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, and perimeter protection.
Create system layouts, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials using CAD tools.
Select appropriate hardware and technologies, considering scalability and integration.
Ensure designs comply with relevant codes and standards (e.g., NFPA 731, UL 294, NEC, ADA).
Coordinate with architects and contractors to integrate systems into building designs.
Evaluate manufacturers and products for performance and value.
Prepare technical documentation for bidding, permits, and client approval.
Participate in design reviews and collaborate with project teams.
Maintain accurate system documentation and assist with onboarding new employees.
OPERATE AS ONE TEAM :
Build strong relationships within Beacon and with project stakeholders.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS :
Deep understanding of physical security systems and industry standards.
Knowledge of low-voltage systems and building construction.
Experience with security platforms like Lenel, Avigilon, or Software House is preferred.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, or similar software.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Bachelor's degree in electrical or security engineering or related field; or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 3-7 years in security systems engineering or low-voltage design.
Certifications in low voltage systems are preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Hybrid role post-onboarding, with in-office presence three days per week.
Work may occur in offices, medical, educational, or customer sites with environmental factors like noise and dust.
Ability to transfer to various job sites as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Prolonged sitting, standing, and manual dexterity required.
Lift items up to fifty pounds occasionally.
Clear background check and compliance with vaccination and screening protocols.
