Amazon's Pricing & Promotions Science organization is seeking an ambitious, hands-on Principal AI Software Engineer to lead, design, and scale our rapid experimentation & analytics science platform and tool suite for the Generative AI era. We are looking for a talented, organized, and customer-focused leader to effectively partner with our scientists, data & analytics engineers, product managers, and dependency teams within Pricing, Promotions, and across Amazon.

This role requires an individual with excellent team leadership skills, intuitive business acumen, ability to effectively operate autonomously, and an entrepreneurial spirit. We are looking for an experienced technical leader who is a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, demonstrates strong attention to detail, and has the ability to work in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment. Key job responsibilities Plot The Course. Coordinate across Science, Engineering, Product, Business, Legal, and Finance to capture and translate requirements into an actionable platform & experimentation delivery roadmap.

Build strong collaborations. Partner with product, engineering, and science teams within Pricing & Promotions to successfully deploy machine learning and generative AI solutions at Amazon scale Mitigate Risks. Manage cross-functional and cross-org dependencies risks, and make appropriate trade-offs weighing value vs time to market

Innovate & Deliver. Lead the effective delivery of complex software systems & tools at the intersection of rapidly evolving science, planet-scale data, and distributed engineering.

Stay informed. Establish mechanisms to stay up to date on latest scientific & techincal advancements in machine learning, LLMs, agentic AI, probabilistic forecasting, and realtime multi-objective optimization techniques. Identify opportunities to apply learnings in improving the efficiency and execution of our science platform and tools

Keep innovating for our customers. Foster an environment that promotes rapid experimentation, continuous learning, and incremental value delivery.

About the team The Pricing & Promotions Science organization leverages planet scale multi-modal data on billions of Amazon and external competitor products to build advanced generative AI and machine learning systems for product similarity, substitutability, error detection & correction, and probabilistic price estimation, discovery and discount optimization, promotion & deal recommendation and ranking, and causal short & long term impact measurement. We preserve long term customer trust by ensuring Amazon's prices are always competitive and error free

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

10+ years experience programming in Python, Java, C++, or related language 5+ years experience in distributed software system architecture, design, and technical engineering leadership 5+ years experience in AWS technologies Experience leading multiple concurrent programs, projects and/or development teams in an Agile environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with neural deep learning methods, machine learning, LLMs, or Generative AI Experience developing software for scientists and machine learning engineers Experience with SQL Experience with Redshift, Spark, Snowflake, Athena, or related data access technologies Experience with Airflow or similar orchestration technologies Experience managing engineering teams

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $180,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $311,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
