DIRECTOR OF MULTILINGUAL EDUCATION AND WORLD LANGUAGES ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE STEP/SALARY: MA -PHD / $154,919 - $168,910 RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide leadership and coordination in the development, implementation, and evaluation of bilingual education and world language programs in the district, Grades K-12. Assist principals and school staff in the development of educational programs for English Language Learners. Provide support to principals and school staff for the development and implementation of foreign language programs. Work directly with administrators and teachers to provide expertise and assistance in meeting district policies, state, and federal legislation and consent decree requirements. Assist in the evaluation of programs, which focus on the needs of English Language Learners. Assess staff training needs and coordinate professional development opportunities within the department of Instruction and Professional Development, under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning, and Staff Development. Implement and monitor district procedures for compliance with State and federal laws and regulations. Assist in the development of innovative projects and grants to acquire funding to support projects that serve English Language Learners. Performs other duties, as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning, and Staff Development.

REQUIREMENTS: Connecticut certification as an Intermediate Administrator (092) Master’s degree Minimum five (5) years’ successful teaching experience in the area of Bilingual education at either the elementary or secondary level, English as a Second Language, and/or other related experience Successful supervisory experience Knowledge of and/or experience in the various aspects of administration and supervision of school programs Demonstrated knowledge of current research and program models for English Language Learners Provide ability to apply knowledge and skills in the areas of curriculum development, program writing, and program evaluation Excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously and effectively with teachers, administrators, parents, and community groups Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology for communication, reports, and research Evidence of diplomacy, flexibility, creativity, and perseverance Bilingual background in English and Spanish required

This is a Group II position as defined by the Agreement between the Bridgeport Board of Education and the Bridgeport Council of Administrators and Supervisors (BCAS), Local 46, AFL-CIO.
