Position Summary:
The Senior US Economist is responsible for developing and conveying The Conference Board forecast for the US economy. This includes forecasting, maintaining existing models, building new models, creating insights on the economy, and crafting the US economic outlook for delivery to members, the media, and the public. The role also involves producing insights on the interaction between economics, finance, risk, and business strategy.
The candidate will support the Chief Economist in providing briefings to key stakeholders and collaborate with US ESF center teams, ESF teams abroad, and partners across other Centers globally to provide intelligence on the US economy.
Accountabilities:
Develop and maintain The Conference Board forecast of the US economy.
Produce written insights and participate in webcasts, podcasts, and briefings on topics such as US growth, consumption, investment, housing, trade, inflation, Fed policy, finance, and risk themes including monetary policy, fiscal policy, crypto, banking, and financial stability.
Partner with the labor market institute to generate forecasts on unemployment, payrolls, and wages.
Establish a view on US monetary policy and collaborate on US fiscal policy.
Disseminate forecasts to external surveys like Blue Chip and Bloomberg.
Present US themes in the monthly Economy Watch webcast series and maintain related decks.
Engage Members through Experts Live briefings and the ESF community.
Create US chart decks and topical decks on relevant themes.
Write Rapid Responses on high-frequency data such as GDP, CPI, Retail Sales, FOMC, PCE, etc.
Develop thematic insights and contribute to op-eds on the US economy.
Conduct US economic scenario modeling using Oxford Economic platform.
Develop content and indicators for surveys focused on finance, risk, and strategy.
Produce the US section of the Annual Global Economic Outlook and advise on the global report.
Contribute to Gray Swans tools.
Lead insights projects on topics like trade and geopolitics involving data analysis.
Ensure high quality in insights design, implementation, and output.
Engage with NABE to develop professional networks and stay updated on emerging themes.
Qualifications:
A Master's degree or PhD in Economics or related field.
5-10 years of experience in a data-intensive macroeconomic research environment.
Deep knowledge of the US economy and economic theory.
Strong skills in data analytics and analysis.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Experience with analytical, statistical, and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, E-views, Tableau).
Programming experience (e.g., STATA, SAS, R, Python, Matlab).
Knowledge of Haver DLX, CEIC, and Bloomberg preferred.
Experience presenting to and interacting with senior executives.
Media experience is a plus.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Highly organized with attention to detail.
Experience with project management and mentoring junior staff is desirable.
