Position Summary
The Vice President of Development will be responsible for annual revenue, leading all fundraising and donor engagement strategies to significantly grow GPPF ’ s philanthropic support. This is a senior leadership role focused on expanding and cultivating a robust network of individual donors, foundations, and corporate supporters across the state of Georgia as well as aligned stakeholders elsewhere. Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President will design and execute a comprehensive development plan aligned with GPPF ’ s growth vision, ensuring the resources necessary to advance our mission and impact.
The Vice President will be a "player-coach," actively leading solicitations while also setting the overall strategy and guiding any future junior development staff or 3rd party providers.
Role and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Planning
Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes all revenue streams, including but not limited to individual giving, major gifts, foundation support, and corporate support
Lead all donor communications and stewardship
Design and implement a comprehensive and proactive annual gift and major gift plan to deliver the annual revenue target and future goals
Strategically leverage the President/CEO’s involvement for maximum impact, particularly with top-tier prospects and major gift opportunities
Strategically leverage Board members for support as and when necessary
Work closely with other departments (e.g., research, communications, programs) to understand the organization's impact and translate it into compelling stories for donors
Donor Cultivation, Solicitation & Stewardship
Manage a portfolio of current and prospective donors, cultivating relationships through personalized communication, events, and regular engagement
Create, implement and manage a robust donor stewardship program to ensure timely and personalized acknowledgment, recognition, and ongoing engagement of all donors, fostering long-term relationships and retention
Major Gifts
Portfolio of 35–45 donors giving $2,500 or more annually Responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of high-net-worth individual donors capable of making significant gifts ($10k+) This includes conducting prospect research and developing tailored engagement plans
Foundations and Grants
Portfolio of 10-15 Foundations Oversee the research, cultivation, proposal writing, and reporting for foundation grants; this involves understanding foundation priorities and aligning them with the organization's public policy work
Corporate Partnerships
Portfolio of 15-20 partners Identify and build relationships with corporations for sponsorships, grants, employee matching gift programs, and other philanthropic initiatives that align with the organization's mission
Individual Giving Programs
Portfolio of 300+ individuals Develop and manage annual giving campaigns (direct mail, online appeals), recurring donor programs, and potentially mid-level donor cultivation strategies
Prospecting Strategically cultivate a portfolio of approximately 100 high-potential donors, guiding them from initial engagement to securing their first gift and ultimately, upgrading to major gift status Works with current donors, board members, policy staff, marketing staff, and other stakeholders to identify new prospective donors Equip board members with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to actively participate in fundraising, including leveraging their networks for identification, cultivation, and solicitation Oversee the creation of compelling donor materials, including proposals, reports, newsletters, and appeals Events Plan and execute fundraising events (e.g., board dinners, galas, networking receptions) that engage donors and prospects and generate revenue Systems & Reporting Oversee the effective use and management of the donor relationship management (CRM) system to track donor information, gift processing, and communication history Ensure gifts are acknowledged according to approved procedures Ensure donors understand the impact of their gifts through thoughtful and targeted stewardship Qualifications 6+ years of relevant experience with at least 3+ years in a leadership role Proven ability to develop and execute strategic fundraising plans aligned with organizational goals. Track record of success in securing major gifts ($10,000+), annual fund growth, and building robust donor pipelines Adept at donor stewardship, relationship management, and cultivating high-net-worth individuals Strong enthusiasm and alignment with and excitementfor and commitment to the mission of Georgia Policy Non-profit experience preferred, especially within public policy, research, or advocacy Experience managing CRM systems (e.g., DonorPerfect, Salesforce, Bloomerang, etc) and data-driven fundraising strategies Willingness to travel overnight within Georgia up to 2-3 days per month, and 2-4 times annually for multi-day conferences How to Apply Qualified candidates should submit the following application materials (in order) in
