Develop advanced machine learning models – including convolutional neural networks and transformer architectures – to predict Hawai’i soil carbon across space and time. Draft and submit a manuscript presenting transformer model results to a reputable journal. Prepare material for professional conference or other presentation, provide support and mentorship of graduate students in related fields. Other essential duties as needed. Minimum Qualifications: Education: PhD in Soil Science or related field; Experience with GIS and applied data science; Knowledge of ecosystem carbon and greenhouse gas flux; Peer-reviewed publication in related field; Presentation of results in international scientific conference. Desirable Qualifications: Experience mentoring students; Knowledge of artificial intelligence applications in ecosystem or soil science.
