Mission and Goals As a Software Engineer on our Engineering team, youll play a key role in supporting our O&O team by enhancing and optimizing our suite of websites. Youll contribute to front-end development efforts, implement innovative solutions, and ensure our platforms deliver exceptional user experiences. This role reports directly to the Lead Software Engineer and works closely with fellow developers to bring high-impact projects to life. Objectives: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, product, SEO, and analytics to clarify requirements, troubleshoot issues, and ensure project goals are met Independently manage development tasks from investigation and estimation to deployment and post-launch monitoring Customize and develop WordPress themes and plugins to support evolving website functionality and business needs Build and maintain content integrations using modern CMS platforms such as WordPress and Contentful Implement custom analytics and advertising integrations, such as Google Analytics and Adwords clickstream tracking Contribute to the full web development lifecycle from concept and architecture to implementation, testing, and deployment Communicate clearly and proactively with stakeholders to provide updates, surface blockers, and ensure alignment Stay current with evolving frontend trends, tools, and performance best practices; bring curiosity and a problem-solving mindset to development challenges 35 years of experience as a software engineer, preferably in digital media, publishing, or personal finance Strong experience with WordPress development, including custom themes and plugin creation using PHP Familiarity with headless CMS platforms such as Contentful and related content modeling best practices Understanding of web debugging and performance tools such as Chrome DevTools and Lighthouse Experience with analytics and advertising integrations like Google Analytics, clickstream tracking, and Adwords Comfortable writing and maintaining unit tests using frameworks like PHPUnit and Jest Proven ability to manage and ship website projects independently and within deadlines Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to ask the right questions, give timely updates, and integrate feedback Self-motivated, organized, and driven to deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment Gen is proud to be an equal-opportunity employer, committed to diversity and inclusivity.
