Position Summary:
The Product Director - Proprietary Beverage is a visionary leader responsible for driving the strategic direction, innovation, and growth of 7-Eleven’s proprietary beverage portfolio—including iconic brands such as Big Gulp, Slurpee, and 7-Eleven Coffee.
This role is pivotal in shaping the future of 7-Eleven’s beverage category, which is not only a key traffic and revenue driver, but also a beloved part of our brand’s identity. From flavor innovation to equipment modernization, the Director will lead initiatives that delight customers that will reinforce 7-Eleven’s leadership in the convenience beverage space. With a dynamic and forward-thinking approach, the Director will champion external relationships, internal cross functional relationships, but most importantly will lead a team of enthusiastic Category Managers that delivers customer-centric strategies and actions that exceed company goals in sales, profit, and brand equity.
Key Responsibilities:
Category Strategy & Performance:
Develop and execute customer-backed category strategies that translate into actionable merchandising plans. Drive growth in sales, units, and margin through assortment optimization, pricing, and promotional planning. Analyze performance metrics to identify key drivers and implement short- and long-term action plans. Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
Collaborate with Product Development and Innovation team to enhance product quality, expand flavor offerings, and modernize equipment and platforms by which we deliver the end product that the consumer craves. Lead innovation planning, including proprietary syrup development and anniversary/event Slurpee initiatives. Stay ahead of consumer trends to deliver exciting, relevant, and differentiated beverage experiences. Team Leadership & Development : Lead and mentor a growing team of 7. The team is a high-performing team of Category Managers. Set clear, measurable goals that challenge the status quo and foster a culture of excellence and accountability. Promote collaboration and professional growth within the team. Vendor & Stakeholder Management:
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and vendors. Ensure consistent product quality, availability, and value through strategic partnerships. Field Operations Support : Partner with Operations and Field Merchandising to align on category strategies and execution. Train and enhance continuous improvement with inventory management strategies, particularly ordering and execution. Provide education and tools to support flawless in-store implementation. Incorporate field feedback into continuous improvement efforts. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Merchandising, or related field (preferred). 10+ years of merchandising experience, ideally in grocery, convenience retail, or foodservice. 5+ years of leadership experience managing Category Managers. Proven success managing category P&L and driving financial performance. Deep understanding of proprietary beverage platforms and consumer behavior. Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and financial planning skills. Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing capabilities. Experience leading cross-functional teams and fostering collaboration. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Power BI, C-Shopper, and internal pricing/communication systems. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple priorities.
