TriMet is seeking a strategic, safety-driven leader to serve as our Director of MOW (Maintenance of Way). This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Maintenance Operations and will lead all right-of-way (ROW) infrastructure maintenance while ensuring the overall safety, reliability, and performance of the Portland Metro Region’s light rail system. This role will include oversight of signals, track, bridges, overhead catenary systems, and traction power substations.

Provide leadership and effectively translate the principles of the District's strategic direction into the management of the MOW Department, including setting goals, KPIs, and monitoring performance.
Develop and implement preventative maintenance plans, oversee daily maintenance activities, and ensure safety of all personnel and the public in the ROW.
Lead staff in training, supervision, and performance management, including labor relations issues and grievance handling.
Develop QA/QC guidelines and oversee safety compliance, including the On Track Safety plan.
Manage departmental budget, cost-effectiveness, and develop plans for the State of Good Repair (SGR).
Coordinate with other divisions, regional agencies, and contractors on design, construction, testing, and maintenance of new projects.
Ensure adequate training for staff and monitor equipment performance, safety, and reliability.
Manage procurement, contracts, and project scopes related to maintenance services.
Maintain current knowledge of customer experience and service offerings.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, civil, or systems engineering.
Eight (8) years of relevant experience, including five (5) years in MOW, track, overhead catenary, substations, signals, and switches.
Two (2) years of experience managing unionized workforces.
Three (3) years in leadership/management roles at medium to large organizations.
Valid Class C driver’s license issued by Oregon or Washington.
Additional Details:
Grade 21, Exempt, Full-Time, Non-Union.
Salary Range: $153,939 - $230,910, determined by experience and qualifications.
Onsite presence required five days per week.
