As the Health and Safety Manager, you will oversee occupational health and safety programs, analyze trends, and ensure compliance with regulations to safeguard project sites within the same District. Part of the $55 million Canal Street Substation project in Manhattan, we are relocating utilities and constructing a new underground power substation for the MTA subway system, involving complex excavation, construction, and restoration activities. What you will be doing
Manage all safety and security matters during all project phases, including construction, start-up, commissioning, and testing. Support emergency response and vehicle access planning with the Project Manager. Oversee safety programs and procedures across project sites within the District. Perform trend analysis and ensure accurate recording of safety incidents. Develop and conduct safety orientations, trainings, and toolbox talks. Ensure all project permits and certifications are active, documented, and tracked. Provide technical expertise for training, equipment, and inspections to support construction and cost savings. Oversee equipment maintenance and procurement for safety needs. Report on project safety status and trends to management. Manage injury reporting and resolution processes. Create and review worksite safety and evacuation plans. Review investigation reports and corrective actions for safety issues. Review Daily Hazard Analyses and participate in Jobsite Hazard Analysis discussions. What we are looking for
Bachelor’s Degree in Health & Safety or related field preferred. At least 5 years’ experience in construction or safety. Experience as head of safety on transit or rail projects. Track Safety Trained for NYCT required. Minimum 90 days NYCT ROW experience with flagging/diversions required. Completion of the NYC-Department of Buildings Site Safety Manager Course and license required. Completion of OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Course required. Active member of ASSP required. Current NY State Department of Labor Asbestos Inspector License required. Current De-leading Supervisor/Competent Person Certification required. Ability to instruct onsite personnel. Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking). Experience managing safety teams. Skills in mentoring safety professionals and building strong teams. Ability to identify safety risks and develop mitigation strategies. Expertise in construction site equipment, methods, and processes.
