Senior Software Engineer
Location: New York Business Area: Engineering and CTO Description & Requirements About the Department: Bloomberg's Application Frameworks group is the primary infrastructure group behind the Bloomberg Terminal platform. We consider it our dual mandate to provide robust, open and productive technology stacks for our Terminal application developers, and to deliver a stable, responsive and modern end-user experience to our customers. The group is also responsible for our developer infrastructure and flagship products like the Shell and Launchpad and their widely known features such as workspace persistence, tabs, spatial navigation, cascading applications, hotspots and grouping. Our Team: The Rapid JIT team is focused on delivering a high quality, modern JavaScript development experience for Rapid, the primary framework for building applications for the Bloomberg terminal. We are responsible for the end-to-end development experience, from developer tools like a CLI and VS Code extension, to CI/CD and eventually publishing code for release to customers. These tools are used by over 3,000 developers daily, and we frequently work with these developers to influence our roadmap. In the long term, we will continue to collaborate with these teams to unify the developer experience to offer a new, unified application framework offering expanded capabilities on the client and server. We primarily ship developer tools written in TypeScript, running on Node on a variety of development platforms. The Role: We want engineers that are collaborative, open to experimenting and are passionate about developer experience. What will make you successful in this role? Being a strong communicator and problem solver with an attention to detail. You'll need to have: 4+ years of programming experience Honest approach to problem-solving, and ability to collaborate with peers, partners and management A Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, similar field of study or equivalent work experience We'd love to see: Experience building developer tools and TypeScript applications, Node.js Experience with object oriented design, data structures, algorithms, service oriented architecture and databases Experience with popular JavaScript frameworks e.g. React, Redux, Jest Experience in multiple phases of the software development lifecycle We'll trust you to: Own, enhance, and support developer facing applications and tools Collaborate closely with developers and other stakeholders to create a shared vision and roadmap for our application portfolio Contribute to the continuous modernization of our the Rapid framework Salary Range = 160000 - 240000 USD Annually + Benefits + Bonus Bloomberg is an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity at our company.
