Electronic Technician Advanced
This is an advanced journeyman position that requires superior technical skills to successfully provide technical diagnostic analysis to perform complex repairs, calibrations, adjustments, modifications, installations, inspections, and certifications of fire alarm systems in conjunction with other interfaced electronic systems within all research, academic and administrative facilities on the LSU Campus. In addition, the position performs Lead-worker duties, works with other craft personnel, covers supervisory absences and performs other craft skills as required. Job Duties: Utilizes superior technician skills to perform complex repairs, inspections, certifying, tagging, troubleshooting, calibrations, adjustments, modifications, installation, technical diagnostic analysis, etc., in conjunction with other craft personnel, on fire alarm systems and use test equipment such as oscilloscopes, volt, ohm meters, etc. - 70% Reads, interprets and works with advanced level circuit schematics, and vendor literature in new installations and the diagnosing and repair of electronic components. - 10% Troubleshoots and repairs miscellaneous alarm and electronic systems. - 10% Performs other duties as assigned by the Department including on-call and emergency work when needed. - 10% Minimum Qualifications: Three years of experience or training in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR Three years of experience or training in the installation, repair, or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software); OR Possession of a CompTIA A+ Certification plus one of the following: 1. Two years of experience in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR 2. Two years of experience in the installation, repair, or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software). Every six semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in electronics or computer science will substitute for one year of the required experience. Must possess an appropriate Federal Communications Commission (FCC) radio-telephone license when working with marine and aviation transmitting equipment or with radar. Special or Physical Qualifications: Due to the nature of this position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67. In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure. Must be able to lift 50 lbs, be capable of stooping, kneeling, or crouching; able to reach and/or climb a ladder.
