Thornton Tomasetti, Inc., seeks Project Engineers – Structure in San Francisco, CA.
Job Duties
Assists in the direction, coordination, planning, organization, integration, and completion of engineering projects within the area of assigned responsibility. Communicates and coordinates with clients and consultants (e.g., architects and civil/mechanical/electrical/plumbing engineers) to ensure clear understanding of project goals and expectations, and structural design progress Interacts with team members regarding project information. Plans and formulates engineering program and organizes project staff according to project requirements. Performs analysis (e.g., load, wind, gravity, and geometry). and design of structural systems for all types of buildings and materials using various building codes. Utilizes modern cross-platform software including AutoCAD, Revit, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, RAM Structural, RAM Concept, ADAPT, S-concrete, SpColumn, Enercalc, and MathCAD to enable translation between multiple structural engineering related software from analysis through design documentation. Sets clear direction and delegates and coordinates engineering tasks with other engineers. Details steel, concrete, wood, cold form steel and masonry structural systems for completion of construction documents. Provides guidance to team members regarding TT design standards, design technique, and quality. Determines project, design and construction specifications (e.g., structural systems, beam size, column size, etc.). Guides/assists other engineers regarding issues such as codes, deflection criteria, and software. Coordinates and guides preparation of construction documents with BIM staff, clients, and internal quality staff based on design and analysis results. Back checks each step of the project to ensure quality and standards. Ensures that project undergoes standard quality assurance activities including design reviews, documentation checks, and design checks. Monitors project progress with respect to staffing. Monitors financial health of the project. Tracks and coordinates construction administration items reviews with contractors, and the design team. Reviews structural submittals during construction phase. Responds to RFIs from contractors and subcontractors. Attends construction meetings and visits job-site at major stages and phases. Communicates with contractors. Prepares field reports for clients. Performs full time site-observation for projects as assigned. Reviews existing drawings, field conditions and performs necessary analysis for tenant improvement projects. Assists with emergency response, demolition and forensic investigation projects, as assigned. Develops drawings and spreadsheets to create new standards. Attends weekly practice staff meetings. Assists in writing proposals. Prepares internal training presentations and other learning content as assigned. Recruits potential new hires. Promotes Thornton Tomasetti’s services and reputation in the local and national markets by participating in appropriate industry, professional and community organizations.
Requires a master's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture or a related field plus 2 years of related experience. Requires 2 years of experience in following: Designing and detailing structural members in steel, reinforced concrete, pre-stressed and post-tensioned concrete; Reviewing shop drawings and coordinating structural design for disciplines including mechanical, electrical engineering, and architecture; Visiting job sites during construction and preparing revisions to structural design documents; Utilizing software including SAP2000,ETABS, RAM, SAFE, PCA Software, Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam Revu. Telecommuting and/or working from home may be permissible pursuant to company policies. When not telecommuting, must report to work site.
40 hours/week. The compensation for this role is at least $118,000 per year. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location. Compensation
The rate for this position generally is $92,000 - $120,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the California Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful California applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in California or perform the position from California. Similar positions located outside of California will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by California Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee’s pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
