Front Desk Clerk

Perform front desk-related duties in a busy podiatry clinic/office. Duties/responsibilities include but are not limited to, checking patients in/out, answering phones, sending/receiving faxes, scheduling and confirming appointments, verifying insurance coverage and benefits, entering/confirming accurate patient demographics, and collecting co-pays and open balances. Must be able to work overtime as needed. This position is In-Person at the Tamarac Location: Barry Foot & Ankle Institute 7301 N. University Drive, Suite 205 Tamarac, Fl. Essential Functions

Perform Medical Front Desk duties as follows: Check-In (Registration) and Check-Out Patients as follows: Verify accounts and prior check-in, prior to patient arrival in office Create new patient accounts in current EMR Collect/Scan/Enter Photo ID's and Insurance card into EMR Verify that all forms have been completed and signed Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits Obtain authorizations for office visits/procedures and surgeries in a timely manner Enter/update/verify patient demographics/ins. information/authorizations for each office visit Collect co-payments, outstanding balances or establish payment plans Print off superbills for all patients checking in at the office Telephone/Fax Related Functions: Schedule New/Established patient appointments with Chief Complaint Confirm all patient appointments via the EMR report Schedule hospital surgeries Schedule diagnostic procedures Relay messages to Doctors/Office Manager as needed Answer incoming phone calls in a timely manner Respond to patient requests in a timely manner Contact patients to reschedule appointments when necessary Send/receive/organize/distribute faxes on a daily basis Maintain Workman Compensation Cases: Ensure patient's case is still open by contacting the adjuster Prepare chart to receive outside records documenting patient condition Provide records to adjuster following patient visit (Clinic notes and DWC-25) Process the request for retrieval of stored medical records when required Perform other clerical functions in support of the clinic by: Filing all charts and paperwork in a timely and efficient manner Opening and/or Closing the office at the beginning and/or end of the day Call lab for specimen pick-up Turn off x-ray machine Lock the file room Dispose of biohazardous waste Lock supply cabinets Clean, sterilize, prepare office/exam room space for following day Obtain Authorization for Surgery/Procedures/Other as Needed: Confirm CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) by using Super Coder website Call insurance company to verify coverage and obtain surgical authorization Complete the hospital surgical scheduling form Fax to hospital Call patient to inform of deductible and/or copays (surgical benefits) Notify hardware company representative for needed supplies Obtain Insurance authorization for physical therapy or diagnostic studies as needed Receive orthotics, notify patient, mail orthotics to patients Patient Discharge: Assist patient with scheduling procedures (MRI/CT) if ordered Process insurance payment copay and collect any outstanding balance Collect charges for any over the counter products purchased in the office Perform other clinic duties as assigned Qualifications/Requirements

High school diploma. Vocational/Technical Training in Office Administration is desirable. 1-3 years of Medical office front desk experience is required. Must be able to work overtime as needed. Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Excellent communications skills, verbal and written Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
