Title: W0377 - Embedded Tutor State Role Title: Part Time Hiring Range: Commensurate with credentials and experience Pay Band: UG Agency: Norfolk State University Location: Norfolk State University Agency Website: WWW.NSU.EDU Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties: In collaboration with the School of Business, the NSU Writing Center is preparing to pilot an Embedded Tutoring Program with the primary purpose of bolstering juniors' and seniors' writing skills and competencies prior to students entering internships and the workforce. In addition to the primary aim of the Embedded Tutoring Program, the Writing Center will supplement skill development through regular writing workshops and faculty professional development opportunities. The Writing Center is seeking to hire four part-time embedded tutors to work closely with faculty to assess and enhance undergraduate writing skills, accomplished by attending School of Business courses taught by partnered faculty, collaborating with partnered faculty to provide personalized support for students in each course section, reading students' written assessments and providing personalized feedback, meeting with students individually and in group sessions to help them identify patterns of error and improve their writing abilities in alignment with the academic standards set forth by the School of Business, and by attending both regular tutor training sessions and professional development opportunities facilitated by the Embedded Tutoring Coordinator. Minimum Qualifications: 1. A working knowledge of academic writing, including best practices, the writing process and familiarity in locating and documenting reliable and credible sources. 2. Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. 3. Ability to work with and interact effectively with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff. 4. Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize and assess programs and events. 5. Demonstrated computer skills, e.g., the ability to conduct internet research, utilize word processing and database software. 6. Knowledge of the applicable federal and state regulations governing areas related to the responsibilities of the position including the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). 7. At least 18 earned credits of graduate coursework. Additional Considerations: 1. Master's degree, preferably in Business, English, Rhetoric and Composition, or Professional Writing 2. Coursework in business writing, rhetoric/composition, or the equivalent 3. Professional proficiency in digital education technology 4.
