Work Shift: 8 Hours - Day Shifts (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Salary Range: $19.00 - $30.50 Union Position: No Department Details The Loukil Lab at Sanford Research Institute is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Research Specialist to join our team and work in neuroscience and mouse genetics research. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about pursuing a research career in neuroscience and skilled in maintaining the daily operations of a laboratory. The Loukil Lab studies a tiny cellular organelle called the primary cilium. This antenna-like structure is found in most human cells and senses extracellular cues and converts them into intracellular signals required for embryonic development and homeostasis of various tissues and organs. The Loukil Lab's research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms that govern cilia biogenesis, remodeling, and signaling. We aim to uncover how disruptions in these processes contribute to neurological diseases. The lab is well-equipped and offers a dynamic and collaborative research environment. The successful candidate will study how primary cilia regulate brain function and behavior. A wide range of approaches will be employed, including state-of-the-art microscopy, in vivo BioID proteomics, genetic manipulation, and mouse genetics. Summary Assists other research investigators by performing non-complex research and experimentation following established protocols. Performs routine lab and equipment maintenance, such as cleaning glassware, counter tops, and equipment. May be responsible for calibration of instruments. Sets-up and operates various scientific apparatus. Job Description Assists with research projects. Makes intellectual contributions to current research activities and contributes to the design of experiments and new techniques. Prepares and weighs samples for testing and analysis. Conducts tests, assays and other protocols as needed and under supervision. Properly documents procedural actions as well as results. Analyzes and/or summarizes findings. Reviews and researches current literature as directed related to current research projects. Basic or general knowledge of laboratory procedures required. May be expected to perform more complex scientific techniques, such as isolate and maintain various cell types in culture, including stem cells and perform studies involving animal models. May also be expected to know techniques specific to the research program. As a multi-site institution, occasional local travel between sites may be required. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a clinical, health or life science field required. Demonstrated prior experience and competence in research a environment preferred.
