The Endoscopy department at Elliot Hospital is committed to providing excellent care and comfort while ensuring the safety of its patients. About the Job:
To function as an integral member of the endoscopy team by performing a variety of duties which assist the endoscopist in carrying out a safe endoscopy procedure with optimal results for the patient. Demonstrates patient and customer focus by treating patients and others one serves as a top priority and by meeting or exceeding their expectations. What You'll Do: Facilitates the throughput of patients during admission, procedural, and recovery phases. Assists under the direct supervision of the physician with diagnostic and therapeutic upper endoscopies, colonoscopies, endoscopic ultrasound procedures (EUS), ERCP, fine needle aspirations with slide preparation, biliary and pancreatic duct stents, esophageal stents, esophageal dilations, specimen collection, and other related duties. Responsible for the turnover of procedure rooms and admission/recovery areas. Demonstrates competency and knowledge in the manual and automated cleaning process of scopes. Adheres to manufacturer and regulatory guidelines. Documents are processed appropriately. Maintains an adequate supply level in procedure rooms, utility rooms, and office areas. Ensures the availability and preparedness of supplies and equipment needed to support efficient, effective, and safe patient throughput. Monitors for outdated equipment/supplies. Participates in the reporting of quality measures. Returns endoscopes and equipment to the appropriate storage place, cleans, and ensures transport of certain items to the Sterile Processing Department. Utilizes appropriate chemicals for disinfection. Verifies and monitors the shelf life of disinfectants. Reports malfunctioning endoscopes and equipment to appropriate individuals and completes the repair request. Notes repair in logbook and arranges for shipping/pickup of endoscope. Effectively communicates with patients, their families, and EHS personnel in a positive and supportive manner. Provides backup support for the front office/reception area. Provides both emotional and physical support to patients throughout the department's stay. Assumes responsibility to continue personal improvement in knowledge and competency. Assists overloaded team members, helps develop team cohesiveness, and aligns individuals with the group. Performs other duties as required within the technician's scope of practice. Who You Are: High school diploma or equivalent required. Licensed Nursing Assistant or Surgical Technician Certification required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred at time of hire; OR completion of BLS certification within thirty (30) days of hire required. Experience in an Endoscopy setting preferred. Knowledge of infection prevention and control principles is required. Familiarity with endoscopic instrumentation and equipment Familiarity with the digestive tract, disease process, and related endoscopy procedures. Basic computer skills required. EPIC and Microsoft Office experience preferred. Demonstrates customer relations skills that promote a positive image of the department and organization.
