Specimen Transporter

Performs all duties related to the pickup and delivery of patient specimens, delivery of materials and supplies to internal or external AHA customers. Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Pickup and transport coolers of patient specimens from AHA facilities to AHA testing facilities. Pickup and transport patient specimens from lockboxes at AHA clients. Pickup and transport patient specimens from nursing facilities and clients. Display appropriate helpful, courteous, professional customer service. Safely operate AHA's vehicle. Report to work at assigned time, dressed appropriately and ready to work. Follow all applicable laws while operating a motor vehicle. Maintain an insurable driver's license, free of citations and suspensions. Adhere to established/scheduled route delivery and pickup schedules. Pickup and deliver patient specimens, supplies, and materials to the correct location. Complete daily vehicle checklist, report deficiencies to the supervisor or designee. Remove all debris/trash from the vehicle daily; take responsible care and maintenance of the vehicle. Use and safely keep the phone. Assist in periods of increased activity or to cover other shifts/days as needed. Pickup and/or transport STAT samples. Perform simple maintenance on vehicles when possible. Ensure all necessary paperwork is accurate and complete and turned in daily. Monitor and operate the cell phone to ensure all orders are complete and received. Answer phones when called. Deliver supplies, orders, mail, and other paperwork to clients and employees. Assist the Supply Department, as needed. Transport supplies/specimens from client to AHA. Work as a team or individually. Maintain a professional appearance, greet the public in a cheerful manner. Work holidays, weekends, and health fairs as scheduled. Be punctual coming to work and completing required duties; consistent in attendance. Other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities

High school diploma, GED required. 1-3 years' courier driving experience preferred. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Maintain a valid driver's license with no restrictions due to law violations. Language Skills

Ability to communicate effectively in English with other team members (written and verbal). Read and interpret documents written in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedures and policy manuals. Ability to read and interpret maps for the various routes that may be performed. Math Skills

Math calculations related to counting the number of patient specimens picked up from customers. Math calculations related to supply orders, inventory and expenses is required. Reasoning Ability

Good judgment and reasoning skills are required. Problem solving skills. Attention to detail. Recall/retention skills. Adapt to changing workloads. Adapt to variance in vehicular traffic volumes. Computer Skills

Exposure to heat, rain, cold, snow, and potentially unsafe driving due to changing weather patterns. Exposure to bodily fluids. Physical Demands

Ability to move and/or lift materials weighing less than 50 pounds. Ability to sit for 1-2 or more hours in a vehicle while driving to/from client locations. Extended visual concentration.
