Red Bank Veterinary Hospital (RBVH) proudly opened its new, state-of-the-art facility in May 2024an expansive, 100,000+ square foot space nearly twice the size of our original Tinton Falls location. This milestone marks the continuation of over 40 years of dedicated service to our community. Equipped with advanced diagnostics like MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, and a PET scanner, the hospital features 52 exam rooms, 12 surgical suites, a dedicated emergency department, and expanded training spaces. We are seeking an Exotics Technician who is outgoing, organized, and capable of working independently. This role serves as a crucial link between clients, client services, doctors, and technicians, supporting collaborative care for exotic patients and assisting with a wide range of daily tasks across all hospital departments. Position Overview
The Exotics Technician must be outgoing, be able to work independently, possess excellent communication skills, and make use of all available time. The Exotics Technician must have good organizational skills and the ability to perform and work proficiently in a wide variety of daily situations. The technician must also be able to work with every department in the hospital. The Exotics Technician provides a link between clients, client services, doctors, and technicians. Compensation & Benefits
Full Time (Multiple roles available) Credentialed Technicians: $30- $34/hr. based on experience Non-Credentialed Technicians: $25- $29/hr. based on experience We also offer a competitive benefits package plus local hospital benefits The final compensation offer will be based on the qualified candidate's experience and ability to make an impact coming into the role. Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Support: Prepare exam rooms, gather tools, assist with exams and procedures, obtain patient histories and vitals, triage emergencies, administer vaccines, assist with surgical prep/cleanup, and educate clients on diet and husbandry. Diagnostics: Perform venipuncture on multiple species, collect and prepare diagnostic samples (cytology, fecals, trichograms), run in-house lab tests, process lab forms, perform basic cytology evaluations, and submit necropsy requests. Communication & Coordination: Create and explain treatment estimates, call in prescriptions, manage follow-up care, confirm appointments and surgeries, participate in rounds, maintain client communication, and respond to departmental emails. Treatment & Procedures: Provide basic grooming, assist with medical procedures and euthanasia, place and maintain IV/IO catheters, calculate and administer medications, set up fluid therapy, assist with feeding, perform CPR/CPCR, monitor anesthesia, and handle aftercare. Medical Records & Documentation: Record patient care, CPCR events, technician notes, and enter charges into Cornerstone accurately and on time. Team Collaboration & Training: Use appropriate veterinary terminology, maintain a positive and adaptable attitude, work as part of a collaborative team, and assist in training other staff members across departments. Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Three years of experience working as a nursing team member in a veterinary hospital is required. Prior experience with anesthesia techniques and protocols is required. Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus! Preferred Qualifications:
Credentialed as a Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT) Prior experience working with avian/exotics patients Benefits
