Truck Driver/Utility Worker CDL U121

Performs a variety of tasks to assist in the efficient and reliable operation, maintenance, protection, and appearance of all pipelines, services, hydrants, valves, and other appurtenances within the distribution system. Key Accountabilities: Constantly performs work assigned by supervisor; collects, compiles, and records work data. Constantly breaks up pavement, using pavement breakers, pry bars, shovels, picks, and other hand tools to dig excavations preparatory to removing and/or repairing pipes. Frequently backfills, tamps, and installs temporary paving, using assorted hand tools and tamping machine. Frequently ensures jobsite is secure prior to leaving. Frequently determines appropriate material, pipe sections, valves, and fittings needed to perform assigned work. Frequently performs cutting, threading, brazing, soldering, and connecting or adjoining pipe and fittings, as required. Frequently performs taps, as required. Occasionally drives company vehicles including backhoe, as required. Occasionally installs or removes shoring systems, as required. Constantly follows established safety guidelines and procedures. Occasionally performs duties of Laborer, as required. Performs other duties as assigned. Experience/Education: High School graduate or State-recognized Educational Equivalency Certificate. Specific vocational preparation includes an occupationally-significant combination of vocational education, apprentice training, in-plant training, on-the-job training, or essential experience. Work Environment: All work is outside work in all types of weather and involving contact with water or other liquids. Atmospheric condition with moisture content sufficiently high to cause marked bodily discomfort. Exposure to ambient temperature extremes both hot and cold. Works near gasoline, oil, or substances in the soil. Potential exposure to poison ivy, oak, sumac, insects, etc. Subject to potential hazards such as driving/driving in darkness, working in traffic/darkness, and working with and around excavation equipment and compressed air. Subject to noise exposure and vibration from jack hammer, air compressor, trash pumps, and gas tamp.
