General Summary:

The Oncology Social Worker is responsible for providing psychosocial services to adult patients and their families in an outpatient medical oncology setting. This includes emotional support, crisis intervention, case management, and advocacy throughout all phases of the cancer continuum.

Essential Functions:

Assess distress and psychosocial needs; provide crisis intervention, counseling, patient navigation, advocacy, legal/resource referrals, education, group work, and case management.

Assist patients with financial, insurance, and access-to-care issues.

Educate and consult with staff on biopsychosocial, mental, environmental, spiritual, and cultural factors influencing oncology care.

Collaborate across disciplines in delivering psychosocial clinical services and patient- and family-centered education.

Work with leadership and other professionals to ensure timely, efficient delivery of clinical services.

Train social work interns; facilitate psycho-educational or support groups and community education programs.

Serve as a resource on community supports and social work best practices.

Education:

Master of Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited institution.

Experience:

3-5 years of post-master's social work experience.

Minimum 2 years in a medical setting (oncology experience preferred).

Licensure & Requirements:

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Georgia.

Board certification in oncology social work (OSW-C) preferred, not required.

Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel between clinic locations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Deep understanding of psychosocial issues related to cancer diagnoses and treatment.

Familiarity with DSM-V and psychosocial assessment tools.

Evidence-based and trauma-informed intervention knowledge.

Strong case management and advocacy skills.

Adherence to NASW Code of Ethics and AOSW standards.

Competency in advance care planning and directives.

Effective interprofessional communication and collaboration.

Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal/written communication, and interpersonal skills.

General computer proficiency.

Working Conditions:

Office and exam room settings.

Physical demands include sitting, standing, walking.

Occasional emotional stress due to patient/family situations.
