Central Sign Shop Clerk
Under the general direction of the Graphic Designer 2, the incumbent of this position provides sole clerical, manual and administrative support necessary for the day-to-day oversight of the Central Sign Shop's million-dollar inventory. Responsible for various clerical and manual activities in the receipt, storage, and distribution of goods, materials, equipment, office supplies and records. Coordinates with Thruway Maintenance Sections, contractors and/or other outside agencies to ensure timely processing of certain parts requests; processes requisitions for parts. Coordinates/communicates with vendors/suppliers on purchasing parts. Understands the rules, regulations and procedures governing the stores operation in which they are assigned and must be able to apply them in making independent decisions involving the ordering, reordering, delivery, storage, and distribution of goods, materials, supplies, and equipment. Minimum qualifications: Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service allocated to a Grade 07 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the NYS Civil Service Law. NY HELPS Qualifications: One year of experience where most work time is spent performing activities related to mail receipt, mail distribution, storage, and/or stores keeping. This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Or Provisional Appointment Pending Examination: Current New York State Thruway Authority employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as Grade 6 or higher. Candidates interested in provisional appointment will be required to take the New York State Department of Civil Service exam for this position. Or Non-Competitive Promotion (NCP): If there are three or fewer qualified candidates interested in appointment to this position, the appointing authority will request approval from the NYS Department of Civil Service to fill this position via a noncompetitive promotion (NCP) examination, pursuant to Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. In order to be eligible for the NCP, candidates must meet the following qualifications: Current New York State Thruway Authority employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as an office assistant, clerical, or keyboarding title allocated to a Grade 6 or higher. Additional comments: This is a Unit 1 (Teamsters) position.
