Paramedic Flight II

The Paramedic Flight II role competently delivers and documents routine patient care along with safely administering prescribed medications; recognize implications of medications with routine vs. complicated use. This role provides pre-hospital advanced life support to helicopter/ground transport patients across the lifespan from initial contact until patient care is relinquished to medical staff. This role performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and to maximize patient and customer satisfaction. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Current National Registry and Virginia EMT-P Certification AHA BLS HCP Certification or Equivalent Weight Restrictions: Maximum individual weight must be equal or less than 235 lbs. in street clothes Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Continued Employment: Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) after 6 months Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification (PALS) after 6 months Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) after 6 months Achieve and maintain a certification in Transport Provider Advanced Transport Course (TPATC) OR Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Achieve and maintain Flight Paramedic Certification (FP-C) after 2 years of hire Experience REQUIRED: 3 years' experience of 911 ALS transport Meets all performance expectations and safety standards as listed in level specific job description Experience PREFERRED: Experience with language skills appropriate for setting (i.e. able to interpret flight-related reports, health-related documents, business reports) Academic healthcare experience Education/training REQUIRED: Flight Paramedic I: Graduate of accredited EMT-P Program Flight Paramedic II: Graduate of accredited EMT-P Program, Current FP-C Flight Paramedic III: Graduate of accredited EMT-P Program, Current FP-C Education/training PREFERRED: Flight Paramedic I: Current FP-C Flight Paramedic II: Associate's Degree Flight Paramedic III: Bachelor's Degree Independent action(s) required: Understand TJC and VCUHS Standards, Policies and Procedures Understand the VCU Health Critical Care Transport Standards of Care policies Document patient care effectively Function under direct and indirect medical control in hospital and pre-hospital setting Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A Additional position requirements: Required to work weekends and some holidays Rotating shifts May be exposed to hazardous situations prior to and during transport May be exposed to extreme weather conditions Employees may be required to use their own vehicle to perform essential functions of this position and comply with the Health System's motor vehicle policy Age Specific Groups Served: All Physical Requirements (includes use of assistance devices as appropriate): Physical Weight Restrictions: maximum individual weight must be equal to or less than 235 lbs. in street clothes, Lifting greater than 80 lbs.
