A population Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) supports the mental and behavioral health needs of hospitalized pediatric patients at Children's Wisconsin. This CNS collaborates with the Mental and Behavioral Health team, the Clinical Nurse Specialist team, and Patient Care Leadership to assure the mental and behavioral needs of the patients are met in settings such as the patient care units and Emergency Department Trauma Center. Serves as an expert consultant in identifying staff educational needs, evidence based best practices, and strategies for optimal integration of mental and behavioral health as part of whole child health in the acute medical setting. This is a full time position. Education
Master's Degree in Nursing preferably with Clinical Nurse Specialist track required Experience

Responsible for collaborating with peers, pediatric nurses, Patient Care Managers and Directors to develop and implement the patient care philosophy, standards of practice, and projects designed to provide support and education to pediatric nurses. Participates as active member of CW Clinical Nurse Specialist: Unit/Population Based group as well as the CW Clinical Education Operations Council in the assessment, design, implementation and evaluation of behavioral health related PCS orientation programs, clinical education, and ongoing competencies. Shares accountability for development of clinical competencies in collaboration with staff and preceptors. Evaluates clinical practice environment for strengths & challenges to orientation, quality of care, safety and professional development of patient care staff and uses this evaluation to effectively plan and make changes in collaboration with other health care professionals. Monitors practice standards and facilitates practice changes based on quality improvement, competency, and evaluation data as relevant to Patient Care Services goals. Facilitates unit-based access to, interpretation, and utilization of clinical research to support evidence-based practice and improved patient outcomes. Serves as clinical practice role model in the care of children and families specific to the Mental Behavioral Health Service Line. Encourages and supports clinical inquiry & scholarship development among patient care staff. Provides consultation in area of practice expertise to regional hospitals and external agencies. Provides nursing and patient care management support for behavioral health concerns. Targets education to nursing groups (e.g., education on OCD for groups working with a specific patient) Legacy Essential Functions
Provides administrative leadership for initiating, coordinating, and running behavioral huddles, and monitoring outcomes of huddles. Provides behavioral health follow up services for patients with an open behavioral health consults Partner to manage and implement suicide protocols with medical team, sitter, and families and to provide early recognition/detection of behavioral issues through medical and nursing history and/or patient behaviors. Deals with crisis situations, and creates, adapts and monitors behavioral plans of care at the bedside. Assists with creating and maintaining a physically and emotionally safe environment for staff, patients and families. Role models clinical expertise provided either by direct patient care or by influencing nursing staff through evidence-based nursing practice. Identifies educational needs of staff and develops formal teaching plan content and presents educational programs. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Professional level of knowledge and clinical expertise in the family-centered care of infants, children and/or adolescence Knowledge and skills related to pediatric clinical practice /education and prevention/ management of children with behavioral challenges. Demonstrated ability to synthesize scientific knowledge and participate in clinical inquiry through evidence-based practice and research Strong execution skills. Analytic skills (conceptual/practical). Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with and influence others. Requires independent judgment to develop, implement and monitor nursing care practices. Member of professional organization for specialty area and/or role.
