Primary Function of Position: Working in partnership with the EVP, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer and other members of the global Legal Leadership Team, the Senior Director, Head of Legal Operations will play a crucial role in initiating and building a Legal Operations group and in the strategic and operational effectiveness of the Legal Department. The ideal candidate will help establish and execute the Legal Department's strategic roadmap, embody the Continuous Improvement mindset, and be relentless in removing sand from the gears. This person will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and administrative functions of the Legal Department, such as budgeting, staffing, employee development, technology, vendor management, compliance, and reporting. They also will assist in aligning the legal strategy with business goals and targets, and managing and tracking internal and external communications on legal, compliance, and privacy matters. The candidate should have experience in information governance, legal technology solutions, payment processing, and document storage and archiving. The person will report to the VP, Corporate Law and Governance. Essential Job Duties: Manage and oversee the Legal Operations team and contribute to the strategic planning for and execution of key Legal Department initiatives. Supervise and manage third-party vendors, including administering engagements of law firms and other third parties. Proactively drive Legal Department financial and budgeting activities. Evaluate and improve Legal Department processes and technologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Act as the lead for legal technology solution projects. Drive important communication and administrative initiatives. Form, staff, and drive organization-wide working groups, committees, and teams. Perform special projects and responsibilities upon the request of the EVP, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer. Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience: 15+ years of legal operations, project management, and related work experience, with at least 8 years as a people manager. Progressive history of corporate legal department or law firm management. Track record of building, developing, and leading diverse teams of employees. Excellent financial management and budgeting skills. Proficiency in current legal technology and software options, including AI. Self-motivated with ability to handle multiple priorities and meet assigned deadlines. Able to drive change and enhance processes with a continuous improvement mindset. Exceptional statistical and problem-solving abilities. Professional demeanor with effective written and oral communication skills and negotiation abilities. Strategic, imaginative, and innovative thinker. Trusted professional with the ability to navigate tough personalities and drive open issues to effective resolution. Proven ability to be relied upon with highly confidential and privileged information. Positive, can-do attitude and dynamic approach. This role requires working onsite in our Sunnyvale, CA office at least 3 days a week. Required Education and Training: B.A./B.S. required; M.B.A. or J.D. highly preferred Preferred Skills and Experience: Knowledge of the healthcare and life sciences industries Experience retaining and managing outside counsel on a global basis Close participation in industry organizations and trade associations Compensation & Benefits: We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay + commission, benefits and equity. The salary range for this position is $244,000 - $366,000. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be established based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications.
