Deputy Division Head Position
We are searching for a Deputy Division Head to join our Applied Sustainment Division (AST) Division of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. The AST Division is an interdisciplinary group of engineers, software developers, functional business process experts, and IT professionals who collaborate to develop technologies for logistics, maintenance, and lifecycle asset sustainment for DoD systems. We conduct applied R&D efforts focused on acquiring data, turning data into information and knowledge, and securely delivering that data, information and knowledge to the right warfighter at the right time to support logistics and maintenance. Our research spans the spectrum from the warfighter edge to the heart of the enterprise. This position may be filled as either a Research and Development Engineer or a non-tenure Research Faculty. ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. You will: Lead a group of engineers and scientists in business development activities that include strategic planning for identifying new business opportunities, developing activity plans for meeting with new potential sponsors, and creating business development presentation material
Lead and/or assist in the development of proposals and projects that further our knowledge and expertise in the area of Applied Sustainment Technologies
Lead a group of engineers, scientists, and support staff that are engaged in the development of technologies critical to the advancement of the Applied Sustainment Technologies Division
Mentor and encourage creativity in innovative technologies and research
Support labor planning activities to ensure all departmental staff and faculty are appropriately and sufficiently tasked at all times
Work with Division Head to review and analyze Division level financial project and overhead funding/expenditure data to enable data driven decision making for managing the Division
Assist with recruitment and retaining, and define performance expectations of department head staff and faculty
Assist with evaluating the professional growth and performance of Department Heads through performance reviews and coaching conversations
Required skills/experience areas include: Demonstrated success leading a team of engineers/scientists, and collaborating with large teams on multi-organization, multi-disciplinary projects
Demonstrated success developing new business, including proposal writing and technical presentation skills
Preferred skills/experience areas include: Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher and may be subject to a government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility, if required
Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering
Previous management and technical leadership in the development, engineering, and sustainment technologies
