Ensure effective implementation of a company-wide Protection Services program. Develop, and implement programs to meet regulatory requirements, protect Company assets and prevent the loss/damage to Xcel Energy personnel, property, and information. Responsible for the implementation of a broad range of strategic security consultative services as directed by Enterprise Security management. Conduct complex investigations and work with other members of the staff to ensure successful and timely closure of cases. Essential Responsibilities
Conduct security risk assessments and security surveys in accordance with regulatory and non-regulatory requirements, standards, guidelines and industry best practices. Recommend appropriate asset protection measures and controls to reduce the Company's exposure to terrorism, theft, property damage, and Company liability at company-wide facilities. Provide consultations as needed. This also includes working with the security systems team to design effective security systems based on survey recommendations that will meet regulatory requirements. Create and update site-specific security plans for all required sites. Work directly with site management and ensure the plan addresses regulatory requirements while meeting the needs of the business operations. Assess the site to ensure the plan is being followed. Develop and present regulated and non-regulated security awareness programs to ensure timely and effective communication of security related information to management, employees and contractors. Implement and participate in the department's incident intake and investigations program ensuring management has the necessary facts to make appropriate decisions regarding security and the disposition of cases involving suspected loss of company assets and/or violation of company policies. Develop and deploy loss prevention strategies at high-risk sites. Personally conduct critical investigations involving risk to the corporation. This program also includes reviewing existing policies and procedures and making necessary recommendations to management on process improvements. Participate in the department's special event program, ensuring that the events are coordinated with Xcel Energy business units, law enforcement agencies and vendors. Planning encompasses threat assessment and identification of measures to deter, detect and respond to potential contingencies. Participate in the department's emergency response program. Coordinate with Xcel Energy business units and law enforcement agencies to ensure proper communications protocols are in place with appropriate parties. Assist in the development of security policies and procedures for emergency events that may take place. Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Security, Business, Public Administration or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. At least five years of industrial security experience in a corporate environment or a combination of military and law enforcement experience. Crime prevention/loss prevention training and experience is desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Must be able to work alone and make critical decisions with little input from management. Must be able to work flexible hours to meet situational demands. Must be able to travel with little advanced warning. Valid driver's license required. CPP or PSP certification desired. Must be able to personally conduct site inspections at a variety of facilities, such as power plants, service centers, electric substations and office buildings. Must be able to climb ladders, to inspect roof hatches or other such openings, lift floor tiles to inspect under the floor, to get down on hands & knees to see under flooring or inspect culverts or holes in fences, walk on uneven surfaces or terrain such as those found at substations or generation facilities.
