Medical Assistant
Location: 6725 Deerfoot Parkway, Pinson, AL 35126 Pay: $16.80 - $22.85/hr. Based on years of experience and MA cert. Assists in examination and treatment of patients under direction of healthcare providers and serves patients by greeting and helping them; scheduling appointments; maintaining records and accounts, checking in and checking out patients, collecting payment and verifying insurance as needed. Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Interviews patients, accurately takes vital signs such as: manual BP, pulse rate, temperature, 02 level, weight and height, and properly records information into EMR. Prepares exam rooms for examination of patients as well as stocking them. Hands instruments and materials to provider as directed for certain procedure. Cleans and sterilizes instruments. Performs EKG's, urinalysis, strep test, flu test, covid test, mono test, pregnancy test, checks patients A1C, etc. Gives injections per providers orders (intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous). Handles portal messages from patients, refill medications, order additional labs or imaging as needed, complete prior authorizations, complete precertification for imaging, etc. Must have effective communication skills and instructs patient and/or their family as directed by the provider. Call patients to discuss results as directed by the provider while maintaining patient confidentiality. Keys data into EMR to maintain office and patient records. May be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time as needed or as directed by supervision (i.e. assist with patient check-in). Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone, answering or referring inquiries. Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone. Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying provider of patient's arrival; reviewing service delivery compared to schedule; reminding provider of service delays. Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties; answering patients' questions; maintaining the reception area. Ensures availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records. Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information. Obtains revenue by recording and updating financial information; recording and collecting patient charges; controlling credit extended to patients; filing, collecting, and expediting third-party claims. Maintains business office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; scheduling equipment service and repairs. Helps patients in distress by responding to emergencies. Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information. Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
