Epilepsy is a neurological condition involving the brain that makes people more susceptible to having recurrent, unprovoked seizures. Akron General runs an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, a four-bed monitoring unit, allowing epilepsy specialists to diagnose a seizure problem accurately and design the best possible treatment plan. As an RN, you will deliver exceptional care, throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will perform routine and intermediate polysomnographic and electroencephalographic tests as well as provide technical analysis of the subsequent recordings. A caregiver in this position works varying shifts, with rotating weekend requirements. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Provide nursing care based on patient-centered outcomes and standards of care based on current research and evidence-based practice. Monitor, record, document and communicate patients' conditions. Safely administer patient care, medications, and treatments in accordance with the Standards of Safe Nursing Practice and institutional policy. Involve the patient and family (or designee) in developing a plan of care individualized to patient cultural, religious, and educational needs. Participate in on-going interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomes and contribute to the improvement of care. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program) Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) One-year of current acute care RN experience. Will consider military RN experience Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Physical Requirements: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
