Structural Welder & Shipfitters - San Diego, CA
As a Shipfitter, you will engage in tasks such as cutting, grinding, and assembling metal structural parts using fitting aids and rigging equipment to align parts according to blueprints. You will be responsible for tacking and welding foundations, installing temporary fasteners to hold structural members in place, and performing other related tasks as assigned. Lay out work from blueprints. Cut, burn, grind, rip-out, and fit-up metal structural parts for placement on the ship. Tack and weld foundations and structural members. Operate high reach equipment including condors and scissor lifts. Set up tools and equipment at job site, clean up, and remove scrap to nearest scrap tub. Utilize rigging equipment effectively. Minimum of five years shipyard experience. Demonstrated knowledge of blueprint reading, ship terminology, and different metals. Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) T-1 welding certification required. Ability to pass a hands-on assessment test conducted by NASSCO. Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces and to access and move around the ship safely. Minimum two years of journeyman level experience. Good burning, welding, and craftsmanship skills. Mechanical ability preferred. SMAW certification is optional but highly recommended. Must comprehend written and verbal instructions. Must be able to hear warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations, and warnings. Must be able to operate welding machines, hand tools, and high reach equipment. Must maintain general safety awareness and avoid hazards commonly present in the work area. The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $43.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
