Dillard University, a selective, coeducational, residential, private university located in New Orleans, seeks a VP/Chief Financial Officer who is visionary, strategic, collaborative, and innovative. The Vice President for Business and Finance, serving as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), manages business, finance, investments, payroll, real estate, and bursar functions. Reporting to the President, the CFO is a member of the Senior Executive Cabinet, participating in strategic and managerial policy formulation across the University. The CFO ensures fiscal integrity and solvency of all assets, overseeing financial planning, policies, investments, budgeting, procurement, cash management, forecasting, revenue generation, debt management, and risk. This role involves working strategically with the President, advisory boards, and administrators to enhance the student experience and community engagement. This position offers an exciting opportunity to help transform Dillard into a more effective and efficient institution, in partnership with the new President, Dr. Monique Guillory, appointed December 2024. Dillard is ranked among top HBCUs and boasts notable programs in nursing, physics, and pre-law. Located on a historic campus in Gentilly, New Orleans, it enrolls approximately 1,200 students from 33 states and 12 countries, with a faculty dedicated to teaching, scholarship, service, and innovation. The CFO plays a crucial role in financial leadership, strategic planning, and management of the division of Business and Finance, including ensuring compliance with regulations and providing excellent service to stakeholders. Candidates should have a successful track record at a four-year college or university, preferably with experience at an HBCU or minority-serving institution, and an understanding of the challenges faced by such institutions. Essential Duties and Functions
Support the President and Trustees in policy formulation and communication, including reporting to the Board of Trustees. Lead finance, administration, and physical resources through presentations and collaboration. Provide vision and leadership for financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, grants, investments, and forecasting. Ensure controls and documentation meet audit and ethical standards. Coordinate reconciliation functions and stewardship of relationships with donors, students, and partners. Approve expenditures, contracts, and purchasing in accordance with regulations. Oversee audits and ensure compliance with GAAP and other standards. Education & Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting from a regionally accredited institution. Master’s degree and/or CPA preferred. At least 8-10 years of senior financial management experience in higher education, preferably at a private institution. Experience supervising finance teams, financial planning, and managing operations such as accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and audits. Knowledge of complex financial accounts and systems that streamline operations. Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Jenzabar and ADP software. Membership in NACUBO. Experience with real estate financing, outsourcing, and shared services. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of not-for-profit accounting standards and compliance. Proficiency with financial software and databases. Strong leadership, communication, and strategic skills. Ability to develop budgets, financial statements, and foster partnerships.
