The Underwriting Quality Assurance Lead (UQAL) is a key leadership role focused on overseeing the quality and accuracy of underwriting decisions, processes, and documentation across the organization. The UQAL is responsible for leading specialized and spot audits, ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines, and driving compliance with both internal policies and regulatory standards. This role involves creating and implementing strategic tactics for continuous improvement, risk mitigation, and quality assurance enhancements. The UQAL will collaborate closely with senior leadership, take ownership of audit functions, and build actionable tactics that enhance underwriting excellence. Purpose of the Quality Assurance Team: Improve underwriting behaviors and foster excellence in underwriting across the organization, by ensuring continuous adherence to Underwriting Guidelines and best practices. Develop and implement tactical approaches to minimize underwriting risks, ensuring errors are identified and corrected before they impact business performance. Key Responsibilities: Specialized Audits:

Lead and drive specialized audits or audit deep dives based on identified business needs, findings or recommendations of the Management Audit Committee (MAC), previous audits, operational data, or emerging risks. Build targeted approaches for addressing specific concerns such as inconsistent pricing, risk selection, or policy documentation errors by performing detailed, case-specific audits. Act on recommendations from Division Heads/CUOs for areas requiring further investigation.

Formulate corrective actions and provide recommendations for improvement based on audit findings, ensuring alignment with underwriting excellence goals. Spot Audits:

Lead execution of spot audits on a sample of underwriting files, ensuring that policies are being issued according to company guidelines and regulatory requirements. Conduct these audits on a random or targeted basis, focusing on specific issues or areas of concern as identified through trends or internal feedback.

Underwriting Process Review:

Review underwriting files to assess risk evaluations, pricing, policy issuance, and overall accuracy, ensuring compliance with internal guidelines and external regulations. Identify and report any discrepancies, inconsistencies, or errors in underwriting decisions and processes. Provide constructive feedback to underwriters and other stakeholders based on audit findings, helping to improve quality standards and minimize errors.

Compliance and Risk Management:

Ensure that underwriting activities meet all relevant legal and regulatory standards, and that company policies and procedures are consistently followed. Work with Corporate Underwriting, DCUOs and underwriting teams to identify areas of risk and implement quality control measures and risk management strategies to mitigate underwriting errors and potential compliance issues.

Reporting and Documentation:

Prepare detailed reports summarizing findings from spot and specialized audits, including root causes, trends, and recommendations for corrective action. Track and document the results of audits, ensuring proper record-keeping for all QA activities and making reports available to relevant stakeholders. Share and escalate identified areas of concern to the Head of CU and respective DCUO for further investigation and training, including any authority violations (above Level 1).

Collaboration and Communication:

Lead cross-functional collaboration with Insurance DCUOs and Head of Corporate Underwriting as well as underwriting teams, management, and other departments to address issues identified during audits and ensure corrective actions are taken. Communicate effectively with underwriting management to present audit results, suggest improvements, and highlight areas of concern.

Qualifications: Skilled underwriting experience with a minimum of 10 years with a proven record of leading teams and driving quality assurance initiatives. Technical underwriting expertise. Experience in Insurance: 1st party lines and/or casualty. Experience in writing clear, concise, and comprehensive compliance plans and reports. Strong attention to detail. Hands-on experience with compliance checks and audits. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills. Reporting:

Reports to the Head of Group Underwriting with a dotted line to respective Insurance Corporate Underwriting teams. For NY Only:

The base salary range for this position is $150,000 - $200,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location. Type:
