Description

The Overlake School, a vibrant and future-focused independent school located just 20 miles from downtown Seattle, invites applications and nominations for the position of

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) . This is a rare opportunity for an experienced and strategic financial leader to join a mission-driven institution at a pivotal moment – poised for deepening its impact, strengthening its foundation, and innovating for the future.

Founded in 1967, Overlake is a nonsectarian, coeducational, college preparatory day school serving 570 students in grades 5 through 12. Nestled on a breathtaking 73-acre campus in Redmond, Washington – home to lush forests, open pastures, and serene wetlands – Overlake offers a unique blend of rural tranquility and urban accessibility. Overlake is known for its inclusive community, progressive programs, and a culture that values compassion, curiosity, and integrity.

Under the leadership of a dynamic new Head of School with a bold vision for the future, and a Board of Trustees eager to support strategic growth and operational excellence, the school is seeking a financial executive with a passion for independent schools, who can elevate its financial management, reporting, and planning capabilities. Reporting directly to the Head and serving as a key member of the senior leadership team, the CFO plays a pivotal role in aligning Overlake’s resources with its values, educational mission, and long-term aspirations, overseeing all aspects of the school’s financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, investments, capital projects, and risk management. They supervise a team of three - Controller, Lead Accountant, and Accounts Receivable Clerk - and collaborate closely with colleagues across the school, including operations, human resources, admissions, and development.

This is a dynamic opportunity for a strategic thinker and collaborative partner to shape the financial future of a school deeply rooted in purpose and innovation. The CFO will lead with integrity, insight, and imagination – transforming data into action, stewarding resources with care, and championing systems that support a thriving learning community at one of the Pacific Northwest’s most respected independent schools – where learning is active, leadership is shared, and the natural world is both classroom and inspiration.

The Successful CFO At Overlake Will Be

A strategic architect who sees the big picture and crafts resilient, future-ready plans. A financial storyteller who communicates complexity with clarity and inspires confidence. A collaborative leader who brings people together, builds trust, and cultivates a high-performing team. An operational optimizer who enhances systems and processes with innovation and precision. A mission-first thinker whose decisions are grounded in Overlake’s values, culture, and long-term success.
