DATA COLLECTORS NEEDED
TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT, SEPTEMBER - DECEMBER 2025
The District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is sponsoring a survey of students in grades 6-12 to collect information on smoking, drug, and alcohol use, and other health risk behaviors among adolescents.
The survey will be conducted in approximately 110 public middle and high schools in all 8 wards in DC. The results of the District of Columbia Youth Risk Behavior Survey (DC YRBS) will be used to (1) monitor health-risk behaviors among middle and high school students; (2) evaluate the impact of state and local efforts to prevent health-risk behaviors; and (3) improve school health education policies and programs.
We need professional individuals throughout the city who have an interest in the health and well-being of adolescents to help administer the web survey. This is a temporary position in which you can expect to work on average 3 days per week for approximately 6-8 weeks. Data Collectors must be available full-time for the duration of the survey period.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Access to the internet to enter daily school participation rates and receive assignments Personal email that can be used for project communications A cell phone that can be used to call assigned schools in preparation for the survey administration visit A vehicle in good working condition to be used to drive to the assigned schools A valid driver's license Ability to pass a background screening Successful completion of an in-person, mandatory 2-day training in mid-September Willingness to travel in all 8 wards throughout Washington, DC EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Experience in field data collection Experience in working with adolescents, particularly in a school setting Experience in working with the public and leading a task Experience in working off-site with little face-to-face contact with a supervisor Experience using a computer/tablet, including navigating the internet, using web applications, emailing, and attaching files PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:
Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills Technologically literate with strong organizational skills Ability to work independently and good at adhering to a tight schedule Ability to think, analyze a situation, identify potential problems, and recommend solutions Comfort in speaking in front of a small or large group Early morning person - scheduled arrival time can be as early as 6:00 a.m. Ability to lift and carry survey supplies up to 25 lbs A professional appearance and demeanor
WHEN : A mandatory 2-day training session will occur in mid-September in Rockville, MD. Assuming successful completion of training, data collection will start immediately after training and continue until all schools have been surveyed.
