Culture of Health Ambassador
will assist the community by developing and promoting active lifestyle initiatives city wide. This role will report to the Director of Recreation and Wellness and serve as a member of the Fishers Community Center team, while also working closely with our Fishers Parks and Fishers Health Departments.
This full-time Culture of Health Ambassador role will coordinate community-based active lifestyle focused initiatives, programs, events, and education within the Fishers community. They will also assess needs through research and evaluation and provide proactive health and wellness initiatives to the Fishers community in a variety of settings. Examples of Duties Serve as the Race Director for the Geist Half Marathon Race Series (Half Marathon, 10k and 5k races), coordinating a team of staff, volunteers, sponsors, and stakeholders to build an exceptional annual event for our community. Develop working relationships with community stakeholders such as schools, businesses, health offices, etc. to develop partnerships, promote active living and healthy lifestyles, and assure strong communication between the City of Fishers Community Center Department, Parks Department, Health Department, and the community. Take initiative and leadership in planning and executing future active living focused events, including, but not limited to, events like a community bike ride, triathlon, or sand volleyball event. Identify community needs based on current public health data and guidelines and develop initiatives to target those needs. Lead our partnership with HSE Schools to provide a free “Open Gym” program to the community. Coordinate scheduling and promotion of the new outdoor Fitness Court at Brooks School Park, a free outdoor exercise amenity for the community. Curate stories of local Fishers residents to promote active lifestyles, sharing through City of Fishers social marketing channels. Conduct evaluations of programs, trainings, and events to generate specifications for health and wellness improvements based on evaluations. With the support of the Parks Department, the Health Department, the Fishers Community Center, and the PR team, coordinate all aspects of major programming aimed at developing a culture of health, wellness, and active living within the City of Fishers. Assist with the organization and development of active living and healthy lifestyle initiatives in the City of Fishers. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university with a major in physical education, nutrition, health promotion, or equivalent; with at least 3 years of experience in the health and wellness field, or 5 or more years of directly relevant experience in the health and wellness field; other combinations of relevant education and experience will be considered; A passion for leading large-scale events and activities for all ages on healthy lifestyle and active living in a variety of settings required; Ten or more years of experience in the health and wellness field preferred; CHES or other education-based certification preferred, or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire; CPR, QPR, First Aid, and chronic disease prevention certifications preferred, or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire; Excellent written and verbal communication skills required; Valid Indiana Driver's License required and must be able to be insured to drive a city vehicle; SafeVisitor status for HSE schools, or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire; This role requires occasional evening and weekend hours based on business needs for health fairs and other events. Supplemental Information Attitude is extremely important in this role. Professional communication and behavior are expected. This role requires a high amount of enthusiasm for the Fishers Community and working collaboratively with a variety of groups to make this community the healthiest in the nation. Accountability to the highest professional and ethical standards are expected. This position will likely require self-study and development. Additional training and professional certifications should be expected.
