The Role. MVS is seeking an innovative and culturally inclusive Chief Financial and Operations Officer. The Chief Financial and Operations Officer supervises and oversees the work of the business office, director of facilities, grounds and transportation, school nurse, director of the extended day program, director of summer programs, and school receptionist(s). The Chief Financial and Operations Officer uses GAAP and bookkeeping procedures to keep an accurate and continuous record of the cash and financial position of the school and manage the financial operation of the school to ensure its financial stability

Primary Responsibilities:
- Culture – models collaboration, discipline, community engagement, business performance, demonstrates regular and predictable attendance and shows a willingness toward continued growth and professional development that is consistent with the school’s mission and values.
- Strategic – work closely with the Head of School, leadership team and board of trustees on long-term fiscal planning.
- Fiscal responsibility
- Oversee all financial and budgeting activity within the school, including financial modeling and forecasting, endowment administration, retirement plan administration, tax return filings, all school purchasing, the state funding program, financial investments, banking activities, payroll and benefits programs, including the school’s 403b program, and audit.
- Manage the financial position of the school toward financial stability, including preparing the annual budget, preparing for the annual audit, preparing the strategic long-range financial model, preparing appropriate key performance indicators benchmark reports, and adopting the recommendations from the auditor’s management letter.
- Reporting – prepare monthly operating dashboards for the head of school, the finance committee, and the board of trustees; provide monthly reports of revenue/expenditures for each budget manager within the school.
- Oversee the administration of the school’s endowment; execute endowment and investment policy; implement investment decisions of the Finance Committee.
- Ensures the timely collection of tuition payments and establishes tuition rates collaboratively with other departments.
- Maintain strong relationships with banks and lenders to ensure that funding is secured for the needs of the school and compliance with loan terms.
- Serve as chief liaison to the Board’s Finance and Facilities committees.
- Oversee, administer, and manage the employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, workers’ compensation, life insurance, and other related benefit plans.
- Staffing and Evaluation – ensure that the positions for all direct reports are filled and that those appointed are performing their duties at the very highest level of professionalism and receive annual feedback on their performance.
- Compliance – Serves as the school's primary contact with the Ohio Department of Education for student count reporting, financial reporting, grants management, state revenue, teacher licensure, etc. to ensure the school’s compliance with financial and workplace regulations as required by local requirements as well as state and federal law.
Additional responsibilities:
- Manage risk at the school to ensure the safety of personnel and students in their use of the facilities and to maintain appropriate levels of insurance to protect the property and to cover the liability of the school.
- Partner with the Head of School to oversee the school’s facilities, grounds, and transportation, including strategic long-range planning for funding of deferred maintenance as well as payment of sub-contractors, and equipment/building depreciation.
- In collaboration with the Head of School, Campus Safety Officer, and the Crisis Management Team, oversees the school’s security and protective measures, including the emergency operations plan.
- Partner with the Director of Technology to coordinate the efficient and effective infrastructure for the school’s technology, including servers, hardware, copiers, etc.
- Food Service – oversee school dining services and school dining equipment.
- Extended Day & Summer Camp - oversee the program and provide support to the directors of Extended Day and Summer Camp to ensure employees carry out activities in support of the programs’ objectives.
- Provide administrative support in the absence of the Head of School in collaboration with the Assistant Head of School.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, administration, or related field;
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
- Extensive accounting and/or fiscal management experience required
- Organized, outgoing, collaborative, service-oriented, strong communication skills, growth mindset, and attention to detail
- Excellent computer competency
- Experience with non-profit organizations or schools is preferred
