About the role:
We are seeking a visionary Principal Data Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of our data infrastructure. As a key member of our engineering team, you will architect, build, and maintain scalable, secure data pipelines and platforms to enable data-driven decision-making across our business. This role requires deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a commitment to data integrity and security, especially given our industry’s regulatory environment.
This position reports to the VP of Software Engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Data Architecture & Strategy:
- Design and implement end-to-end data architecture, including data warehouses, lakes, real-time streaming, and batch processing.
- Establish data governance strategies, standards, and best practices to ensure quality, security, and compliance.
- Evaluate and recommend new data technologies and tools to support growth.
- Build, optimize, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for diverse datasets.
- Implement data validation, monitoring, and alerting mechanisms.
- Troubleshoot data issues, optimizing for performance and efficiency.
- Oversee cloud-based data platforms, ensuring performance, security, and cost-efficiency.
- Implement data security protocols and access controls.
- Ensure systems support regulatory audit requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering staff.
- Promote best practices, code quality, and scalable engineering principles.
- Lead complex data projects from conception to deployment.
- Work with data scientists, ML engineers, software developers, and leadership to meet data needs.
- Coordinate with cybersecurity and compliance teams to meet industry standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field.
- 8+ years in data engineering, with leadership experience.
- Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Proficiency in big data technologies (Spark, Kafka, Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, BigQuery).
- Strong programming skills in Python, Scala, or Java.
- Deep knowledge of SQL, relational, and NoSQL databases.
- Experience with data governance, quality, and security practices.

Salary Range:
The estimated starting salary is $198,000 - $228,000 annually, based on experience and other factors, paid semi-monthly.
