In the next 30 years, the world will transform every part of the built environment to be climate positive green infrastructure. Knowing what, where, and how to build infrastructure generators like solar farms and large loads like data centers is one of the great opportunities of our time. However, there are problems!
The Problem
80% of clean energy projects that developers start never actually get built because most projects are started without deep due diligence on zoning and interconnection due to the cost of collecting that data. This means $17B worth of canceled projects per year.
Our Solution
Paces is software for developers to identify the best places to build and manage their projects. We collect environmental, permitting, zoning, and energy grid data from various sources; then analyze the data and use AI to identify optimal locations for new projects. We also offer end-to-end vertical AI solutions powered by human experts to derisk projects faster than any other means.
Our Team
We are building a team where people can proudly say their time at Paces is the most impactful, meaningful work of their career. Our Brooklyn-based team includes members from Facebook, AWS, Google, NexAmp, TotalEnergies, Equinor, and Tesla.
Paces is growing rapidly and seeking exceptional people who want to make a significant positive climate impact while building a strong culture! Solutions Engineering is the human-in-the-loop power, permitting, and project development team that produces deliverables like power-flow studies and end-to-end development services. We are looking for a Head of Solutions Engineering to join our team, reporting directly to the CEO.
What You’ll Achieve
- Lead a 6 to 12 person team of project developers, power-systems, and interconnection engineers.
- Own delivery of all key deliverables and milestones, including power-flow studies, queue positions, fatal-flaw analyses, and permit packages.
- Standardize processes and tools; collaborate with Product & Engineering to convert repeatable work into software/AI features; design feedback loops to reduce human touch-time.
- Manage resource planning and budgeting; forecast demand, hire or contract accordingly, and oversee P&L for the Solutions organization.
- Oversee Data Operations to ensure data enriches our geospatial and interconnection training datasets and improves efficiency over time.
- Provide leadership in major commercial deals, support sales efforts, coach senior individual contributors, and set goals aligned with Paces values.
- Act as a domain expert to shape internal methodologies and inform product development.
Requirements
- +7 years leading project development, power engineering, or permitting teams for projects over 1MW capacity.
- +3 years at director level or higher with full delivery or P&L ownership.
- Proven track record in producing quality power development deliverables like grid studies, permitting, or large-scale solar/BESS/data-center projects.
- Experience procuring software tools and providing product feedback.
- Knowledge in power system studies, transmission planning, or interconnection engineering at a consultant, developer, or utility.
- Strong communication skills, capable of briefing C-suite executives and utility stakeholders.
- Ability to think beyond traditional engineering and contribute to product innovation.
- Highly ambitious and passionate about creating value through creative, iterative thinking and automation.
About You
You thrive in our culture if you:
- Love deep, in-person collaboration.
- Get a thrill from learning quickly and teaching others.
- Have a strong bias towards action and are always seeking better ways to automate tedious tasks.
Bonus Points
- Previous experience at a high-growth, fast-paced startup.
- Fluency in power-flow tools (PSLF/PSSE/ETAP) and knowledge of interconnection queues & tariff rules across major ISOs/RTOs.
- Insight into data-center capacity planning or behind-the-meter microgrids.
Compensation And Benefits
- $220,000 - $260,000 annual base salary.
- Milestone-based performance bonuses.
- Competitive equity package.
- 401(k) match, health, dental, and vision insurance.
- Paid holidays and PTO.
- Hybrid work model in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (~3x per week).
