This part-time role serves within Kid’s Quest (KQ)—McLean Bible Church’s ministry to children from infancy through 5th grade—at our Montgomery County location (MBC MoCo). Situated in one of the most ethnically diverse and highly educated counties in the nation, MBC MoCo is uniquely positioned to reach the next generation—and the nations—with the gospel of Jesus Christ. This part-time role serves within Kid’s Quest (KQ)—McLean Bible Church’s ministry to children from infancy through 5th grade—at our Montgomery County location (MBC MoCo). Our church family is multigenerational, made up of young adults, families, and long-time residents from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. Kid’s Quest reflects that diversity and regularly welcomes more than 220 children on Sunday mornings, supported by our largest volunteer team.
The KQ Ministry Coordinator – Preschool & Kindergarten provides leadership and oversight for all ministry environments serving preschool- and kindergarten-aged children. Working closely with the Director of Kid’s Quest, this coordinator helps implement a clear and engaging discipleship strategy tailored to early childhood—partnering with parents as the primary disciple-makers in their homes. The coordinator also recruits, trains, and supports a strong volunteer team committed to helping little hearts trust a big God.
Our aim is to create safe, joyful spaces where every child feels known, loved, and engaged as they grow in their understanding of God’s Word and His love—and where parents and caregivers feel equipped and encouraged to lead their children in lifelong discipleship.
Duties And Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
The following items describe some of the ways this individual will accomplish this task:
Spiritual Life
Live an exemplary Christian life through daily time in God’s Word and prayer, worship, [BT1] scripture memory, and sharing the gospel. Pray regularly with and for [BT2] MBC MoCo families and Kid’s Quest volunteers.
Ministry Leadership
Participate in the development of strategy, alongside the Director of Kid’s Quest, for [BT3] Early Childhood ministry that aligns with the vision and mission of McLean Bible Church. Create environments, activities, and programming for each age group (ages 4–6) that facilitate learning and encourage spiritual growth on Sunday mornings. Under the direction of the Director of Kid’s Quest, review [BT4] and oversee the implementation of all curriculum used in Preschool & Kindergarten classrooms. Create and maintain a clear communication plan that keeps families informed with monthly ministry updates. Recruit, train, and continually develop a team of volunteers to serve in Preschool & Kindergarten ministry. Ensure all volunteers adhere to MBC’s child safety and security policies. Invest in the spiritual formation of children ages 4–6, and equip and support parents in their role as disciple-makers. Plan and oversee special events for Early Childhood families and volunteers (e.g., Parents’ Night Out, volunteer appreciation). Remain a learner in Preschool & Kindergarten Ministry by reading, listening to podcasts, and attending conferences for professional growth. Track ministry-related expenses and submit receipts to the KQ Ministry Coordinator – Operations & Nursery. Track and report Sunday attendance for all Preschool & Kindergarten Ministry areas.
Ministry Collaboration
Collaborate with other MoCo Kid’s Quest staff to ensure alignment and excellence in ministry practices. Meet weekly with the Kid’s Quest team to evaluate Sunday programming and overall strategy. Participate in bi-weekly meetings with MoCo NextGen staff to assess strategy for discipling children and partnering with parents. Serve and support church-wide events outside of Kid’s Quest as assigned by the Location Pastor (e.g., church picnics, prayer nights, family events).
Qualifications
A growing disciple of Jesus Christ with a demonstrated commitment to personal spiritual growth and biblical leadership. Previous experience leading in a children’s ministry environment, preferably with preschool or early childhood age groups. Strong ability to connect with young children and partner with parents in spiritual formation. Skilled in recruiting, equipping, and encouraging volunteer teams. Creative and organized, with the ability to plan age-appropriate environments and experiences that support spiritual growth. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Teachable, collaborative, and able to work well within a team-oriented ministry culture. Committed to the mission and vision of McLean Bible Church and willing to pursue membership.
Working conditions
This is a part-time position (approximately 25 hours per week), with flexible scheduling that includes regular Sunday service hours, weekday preparation time, and occasional evenings or weekends for special events. The role operates in a church and office environment and regularly involves interacting with children, parents, and volunteers. The coordinator may be asked to attend staff meetings, ministry events, or training opportunities outside regular hours. Local travel may be required for meetings or ministry supply runs (less than 5%).
Physical Requirements
Must be able to speak, hear, and communicate clearly. Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, and lift. Must be able to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds for short distances (e.g., curriculum bins, classroom supplies). Must be able to actively engage with young children in a classroom or play setting.
