We are seeking a proactive, commercially minded Associate Counsel, Commercial Contracts to join our dynamic and fast-growing multinational insurance organization. This role will support the Associate General Counsel and Global Compliance Director and involves close collaboration with various departments throughout the organization, delivering hands-on legal expertise across a wide range of commercial matters, with a strong focus on contracts and related legal issues related to vendor diligence. The ideal candidate will bring a practical, business-enabling approach to legal third-party risk management and have experience in the insurance industry, contract management, or a closely related field. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a broad spectrum of commercial contracts, including service agreements, distribution agreements, vendor contracts, technology/SaaS agreements, nondisclosure and confidentiality agreements, and consultancy agreements. Serve as a legal advisor to internal stakeholders on contractual rights, obligations, and risk, ensuring alignment with business goals. Collaborate cross-functionally with contract management, procurement, third party risk and compliance, finance, HR, IT, operations, and other internal teams to ensure contracts support business initiatives while managing risk appropriately. Monitor trends related to contractual terms to ensure appropriate risk mitigation. Effectively resolve contract-related disputes or issues that may arise relating to commercial contracts. Provide guidance and expertise to the contract management team in overall efforts to maintain organized records around contracts data governance, including assisting with employee training and engagement on compliance with contract management protocols. Update and implement contract related policies and procedures as needed to align with current laws and compliance practices. Qualifications: Admitted to practice law with approximately 7 years as an attorney with commercial contracts experience, preferably within the insurance, financial services, or highly regulated industries. Proven track record of supporting business functions in a multinational business. Strong legal and commercial contract drafting skills and experience negotiating and advising on complex commercial arrangements. General familiarity with relevant laws and regulations, global regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR, FCPA, UK Bribery Act) and insurance-related regulations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate legal issues into clear, business-friendly guidance. Attention to detail, project management, and organization. High level of personal accountability and integrity, with a solutions-oriented mindset. Comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment with evolving priorities. Ability to work effectively in contract lifecycle management software system, Contract Management certification a plus.. For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York, Starr Insurance Companies is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets: experience and training: licensure and certifications: and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $150,000-$190,000.
