A Research Assistant Professor position is available in the laboratory of Kostandin Pajcini, Ph.D. in the Department of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Illinois in Chicago. The lab studies the processes that lead to the development and differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells. We are particularly interested in studying the processes and cellular signaling that lead to the emergence, maturation and expansion of stem cells in murine embryonic development and in the bone marrow niche during regeneration. A primary focus of the laboratory is the role that Notch signaling plays in the differentiation and cell fate decisions of hematopoietic cells.
This position requires a dedicated individual with extensive previous research experience, in murine transgenic models and hematology. We are looking for a talented individual to carry out exciting studies in hematopoietic development and stem cell research. This will entail working with teams of PhD-level researchers and staff to conceptualize projects and conduct extensive benchtop research. This position will also require the ability to craft research protocols, supervise, and/or train other research staff or students.
Key Responsibilities/Duties
Conduct research and independent development of multiple projects Maintenance of transgenic mouse colony and embryonic fetal analysis Train students and post-docs in hematopoietic research techniques Prepare figures. Make charts, tables, and graphs from numeric and raw data. Write, edit, and proofread manuscripts and scientific abstracts (with potential role as lead or co-author) for peer-reviewed journals and professional research meetings in compliance with protocols for animal and human subjects. Develop and maintain research records, grant information, research notes, and protocols. Plan, assign, and review and manage laboratory work to ensure that research objectives are met for students and post-docs.
Qualifications
PhD or MD degree required Minimum of 4 years post-doctoral research experience Possesses comprehensive knowledge of hematopoietic/endothelial research principles and methods including: flow cytometry, hematopoietic transplants and confocal imaging.
