Job Description
Children’s is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and strategic philanthropy professional to join our team as Development Director, Principal Giving.
The Development Director is responsible for developing and implementing high-level fundraising strategies to support the mission and vision of Children's. This role involves representing the institution throughout the state and region, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding principal gift prospects.
Reporting to the Vice President Philanthropy & Community Giving, the Development Director manages a portfolio of approximately 90 prospective benefactors, focusing on gifts of $1 million and above, and carries an annual goal of $3-$5 million.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
Develop a gift structure and framework to track, coordinate, secure, and measure principal gift philanthropy ($1M+) from individuals and entities. Collaborate with prospect research and management teams to ensure effective tracking and transparency of principal gift strategies, progress, and outcomes. Build and maintain an active portfolio of approximately 90 donors and prospects. Model professional fundraising excellence and provide leadership, coaching, and support to peers and clinical areas. Formulate creative cultivation plans, successful solicitation strategies, and effective stewardship efforts to maximize engagement and support. Collaborate with Foundation fundraising colleagues to pursue institutional donors and encourage planned gifts with the Legacy Giving Director. Demonstrate cross-collaboration with departmental and system-wide teams, displaying a positive approach. Maintain up-to-date records on prospects and donors in the database. Serve as an effective spokesperson and ambassador for Children's at various functions throughout the state and region. Maintain expert knowledge of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's clinical, research, education, and administrative initiatives. Represent Children's and its strategic funding priorities professionally and effectively. Uphold a high degree of professionalism and support Children's mission, values, and best fundraising practices.
Experience
Minimum 10 years of experience in qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of principal benefactors.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, communications, or equivalent is required.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Passion for child health and well-being and commitment to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's mission. Ability to represent Children's credibly and effectively at the highest levels throughout the state and region. Ability to inspire trust and communicate effectively with internal and external audiences. Strong relationship-building skills to harness donor generosity to meet institutional needs. Excellent oral and written communication skills, broad knowledge of the philanthropic process, and ability to work in a complex environment. Ability to serve as a role model by working independently, managing multiple projects, and maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
Proven track record of securing $1MM+. Experience with fundraising campaigns. Leadership experience in the not-for-profit sector. Experience in healthcare philanthropy. Familiarity with Atlanta’s philanthropy community.
