Job Summary This position reports to the Biology Director of Laboratory Services and supports Biology Department Faculty and students in 1st year biology laboratories and provides hands-on support to the daily functionality and maintenance of the biology teaching and preparatory labs. Essential Functions Prepare and set up equipment, specimens, solutions and chemical preparations scheduled for use in Biology laboratory teaching sessions. Train teaching assistants, and adjuncts in the care, maintenance, application and use of teaching equipment and instructional materials in the performance of their duties. Participate in weekly lab meetings to discuss upcoming lab experiments and go over any problems with previous labs Ensure all safety procedures and policies are being followed in Biology teaching labs. Monitor and reinforce safety rules throughout the term for both students and instructors. Dispose of chemical waste generated by Biology teaching laboratories in accordance with Drexel University's Health and Safety procedures Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratories including the laboratory preparatory room. Maintain familiarity with all assigned experiments in Biology teaching laboratories. Act as the point of contact for faculty, teaching assistants, and adjunct instructors with any issues related to the set-up, safety, support, instrumentation operation and maintenance and/or clean-up of all assigned Biology teaching laboratories. Assist with the preparation of other biology laboratory classes as needed. May be assigned teaching duties for one laboratory section per quarter. Other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications Minimum of a Associate's Degree. Minimum of 1 year of combined experience working in a laboratory.
Preferred Qualifications Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Biology
Physical Demands Typically sitting at a desk/table Typically standing, walking Typically bending, crouching, stooping Lifting demands 50lbs

Additional Information This position is classified as Non-Exempt, grade E. Compensation for this grade ranges from $12.83 - $19.24 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the
minimum to midrange
of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
