To support our growing People & Legal team, we are looking for a
full-time (Senior) Legal Counsel (m/f/d)
to join our HYROX North America team in
Chicago.
As (Senior) Legal Counsel, you will support HYROX’s international operations by managing and negotiating a broad range of legal agreements. In this role, you will work closely with internal teams to assess risk, ensure compliance, and advise on contracts related to sponsorships, licensing, events, employment, and corporate matters.
This position requires experience as in-house counsel within an international corporate environment. Familiarity with the sports industry is strongly preferred. You will report to the Director Legal & People, who is based at our HYROX headquarters in Hamburg.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Review and analyze instructions, selected specifications, contracts, and terms and conditions contained in RFQs and RFPs; provide guidance to the proposal/project team. Review, analyze, and edit client contract terms and conditions, prepare comments and addenda & provide explanations and recommendations to the project team and executives. Review and analyze contracts including, single project and master services agreements for the hosting of international sports events, consulting, technical, and field services, subcontracts, NDAs, teaming agreements, license agreements. Liaise with in-house counsel and HYROX staff; support Human Resources on employment-related matters. Prepare corporate registrations, permits, and other Company filings. Coordinate the review of contract insurance requirements with risk management as necessary. Review client responses to terms and conditions, assist in preparing and justifying requests for approval and participate in discussions with project team and executives to obtain approvals for exceptions as required by policy guidelines. Review final contracts for completeness and inclusion of negotiated terms prior to execution. Provide contract support and advise project managers on contract issues/change management as needed during project execution with emphasis on risk management.
Skills & Experience
At least 4 years of relevant experience in reviewing and negotiating complex contracts, ideally within the professional services, engineering, or construction sectors. Bachelor’s Degree and JD Degree. Experience dealing with commercial and public sector contracting, including federal, state, and local government projects. Strong commercial awareness and a client-focused mindset. Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. High attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of legal work. Confident in working independently and exercising judgment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships across teams and stakeholders. Willingness to travel occasionally, as required.
